I have an 11-year-old rex, the second house bunny I have had, for a total of about 18 years of house rabbit keeping.  Mine have always had the freedom of the house and were litterbox trained, but now I keep Kito confined to half a bedroom with a puppy playpen to keep him in.  He's more messy and destructive in his old age for some reason.  Will try and get some photos later.  Your bunnies are beautiful!  and that looks like a nice place for them for sure.

This is an old picture of Niles and Snoopy's pen. It's the same but now split down the middle. Niles decided a while ago that he HATES Snoopy and means business if Snoopy touch's him. He's such a brat.

Niles has gotten much bigger. He just a little boy in this picture.

Mine are also free rangers.  I hate when people put rabbits in small cages yet do understand that some are so destructive they can't have the run of the house.  In the past, I have built the cube cages - larger than DT's but it really took up a lot of space.  I put it on a base with wheels and moved it around when needed.

I use cement mixing tubs for their litter boxes and load it up with hay several times per day.  (I go through a bale of hay a month for 3 buns) I had a difficult time dragging those boxes in and out of the cube cages.  Now, they are placed under a table and it's so much easier.

And, I really like having a bunny jumping into bed with me in the middle of the night and feeling those whiskers on my face!  They are so adorable.

Why can't we make backyard hutches illegal and also those stupid small wire cages that people put them in and ignore them???

usually when I'm home during the daytime I open up the bottom cage door and let them come in and out whenever they please.  The girl bun comes out, runs around for 5 minutes, then runs back into the cage never to come back out again for hours, lol..  but my boy bunny will jump up onto the couch and my lap..  it's just that the girlie rabbit isn't very social still

Buns are so funny, aren't they?  My male, Nishkaam, wants to be snuggled and will lay with me in bed.  The 2 girls don't really go for it.  Sophie will tolerate me and Maya runs and hides.  She's like a wild bunny.  She was born at a bunny shelter and the whole litter acts the same - they are afraid of humans.  I think she'd rather hang in a cage if I had one.  She spends a lot of time hiding in their cardboard castle.  She will get in to bed with me and actually lay against me but if I look at her, she's gone.  That's her trigger to run.

yeah...  the girl bun was the one I got from a coworker's grandson...   who was 4...  and they kept the rabbit (full grown mini rex, btw) in a 29 gallon fish tank...

they never let her out, ever... and there was so much feces piled up in the tank it was insane.  she bonded with my bun quite well, though, and she will eat stuff like parsley from my hands ,but then she's gone once she grabs it from me.

it was so odd that they were the same exact breed AND colors...   since I picked her up without knowing what she'd look like, what she was, or anything.. since they didn't know and couldn't tell me anything except "it has peanut butter spots"

Don't breed or buy while shelter animals die.

Although BunBun doesn't have a cage, she does have her own little room which was supposed to be my "closet."  She's a 14 year old house rabbit, whom I absolutely adore.

What a cool little room! Was that originally a closet? It almost looks like a hallway.

It was originally supposed to be the closet, yes.  But, for one, it's an attic room, so I knew that it would be like a joke trying to fit myself in there with clothes on hangers.  Plus, I hate clothes shopping, so all I need is my little armoire.  It works perfectly as Bun's room.

I don't have any pictures up yet, but my cage is essentially identical to DT's.  For a while I had a 4x2x3 panel cage, but it doesn't fit in the rabbit room very well.  Eventually, I want to have a real rabbit room, and not have to deal with a cage anymore, but, it has to wait until I find a new place.

hehe..

I'm redoing the bunny cage, now that I took down a baby hazard (I used some of those cubes for an actual shelf for games.. not anymore though).  it's now a 4 x 3 x 2 and getting new carpet remnants later today for it..  will post pics when it's completed!

This is the only picture I have of Moxie's cage (full out, anyway) and it's old:

I've since added a second level made up of 4 NIC panels. Though he's only locked in his cage for 7-8 hours each day (at night). He has free run of his bedroom the rest of the time.

Where do you find NIC Panels? I've looked everywhere for material to build a cage with for my rats, but havent been able to find anything except for that flimsy wire.

Target's website has wire cubes for $20.  They'll ship them to you if you don't have a Target nearby.

Thanks! I went out to Target yesterday and picked up a box to try them out. So far, They're pretty nice. They were on sale for $13. Looks like it will make a pretty good sized cage, too, but I think I'm going to go pick up another box just in case my rats get jealous!

An old picture of Bender's cage when i first set it up:

It's got more toys and stuff in it now, but he's usually only in there to sleep. Most of the time the gate is open and he's hangin' out with my dog:

After our move last year I redid the rabbit cage to 1 level, but longer.  The lefthand side completely opens up, as well as a makeshift door on the front.
