I'm going to introduce my foster bunny, without going into crazy detail about everything because I think I have explained Benson's little story a majillion times and typing it seems like a story book  Yellow Cute Laugh.

Benson's old owners got a divorce and moved to different states. I took Benson in, so he wouldn't be euthanized because "no one would want him because of his age". Through the past year of his old owner's divorce, Benson wasn't received much attention and got little care, by the looks of him.

Ben was fed horrid junk rabbit food his whole life. I am working right now to switch him over to Oxbow BBT and get him healthy, he has "fatty pockets" on the side of his body...by his front legs. I took him outside today to be brushed and he looks much better without all of that dead fur on him. He needs his nails cut badly. He also had a HUGE mass of dried poop stuck to his tail...he got a butt bath in the tubby today, but I didn't want to keep trying to get the "poop mass" out of there because it is right on the base of his tail. I am going to have the vet try to remove it, even if it means shaving it off. The "poop mass" definitely looks like it has been there for a while and it was almost covering his anus...which would prevent him from pooping...which would have been VERY bad. He also needs his scent glands cleaned...big time.

Benson has a vet appointment on Saturday the 12th of this month. Benson's old owners gave me $100 to take him to the vet because he is blind in one eye and I want to get it checked out, not sure if it is an infection or not, but he has had it for a few years from an old eye infection I was told. Why he never saw a vet for it, is beyond me. I also hear him either snoaring or wheezing when he sleeps...so he may need a course of Baytril. His old owners told me to call them if I needed more money for vet care.

Benson was obviously VERY loved his whole life...even if he didn't receive good food. He had free run of the down stairs of a massive mansion of a house....about 4 times the size of my whole house! When the owner, Phil, gave Benson to me...he was extremely upset...he never had kids, so Benson was his "kid".

The crap food/treats he has been fed his whole life:

This was the "pellet" he was being fed. The bag really says it is "what rabbits need"  Angry :

This is the KW cage that Benson came to me with. I am going to clean it up and sell it, then donate the money to a rabbit rescue here by buying stuff through their store:

This is Benson, when I brought him home on April 1st:

Benson now has free-run of the bunny room all day, until I let my bunnies play for a few hours each night, then Benson goes into his NIC cage:

Here is Benson's new NIC cage, undecorated:

I will post pictures tomorrow of Benson, since he is all nice and brushed out  Smiley.

p.s...I forgot to add that Benson also appears to be deaf. I am hoping the vet can help me determine that. He doesn't react to yelling or anything. If I run into the room he continues to sleep and not even flinch. He also doesn't move his ears around to hear, like my other bunnies.

Don't breed or buy while shelter animals die.

It really sounds like his owners know they haven't been taking good care of him at all.  I'm amazed they gave you $100 to put toward a vet visit - usually people giving up an animal don't give you anything!  BunBun, who (if you can believe it) weighed over 8 lbs when I rescued her, had excess fat on her sides and especially behind her front legs, also.  It quickly disappeared once she was being fed a proper diet.  Though, she always had the excess skin there from it  Tongue  During her last few months, BunBun had some issues with excess cecals despite dietary changes, and got a lot of poopy butts that just couldn't be remedied by bathing.  I used nose/eye brow scissors with the soft balls at the tip of the points so I wouldn't poke her.  It work really well.  Unfortunately, I basically had to keep that whole area completely clipped for her.  Poor girl  Undecided

Did I mention that Benson is ADORABLE?!  Too bad you're so far away!  He totally pulls at my heartstrings, which I haven't had a bunny do in a long, long time.

I will definitely have to look into the scissor things, to keep on hand for the future!

Too bad you really didn't live close! I have flown bunnies before and they did extremely well...they were younger, though, but I definitely wouldn't fly Benson, even if a vet passed him for flying. Lol....we need super fast air speed cars that get from one side of the country to the next in an hour  Cheeky.
