I know this is going to be moved, mod's I"m sorry, but I really need some advice right now. The small animal forum has half the traffic.

Here's the deal. I have a 13 year old rabbit named Murry. I've had him since I was a freshman in HS, and I'm now 23. Recently Murry has been having some health problems. He has arthritis in his back legs, which makes uriniation difficult and moving hard. I give him meta cam for that and it helps a little. Just last week I noticed he has cataracts in both eyes. And now.

A huge ABSCESS on his jaw. The scab is about half an inch wide and an inch long. It's big. I have no idea how he got it (he lives by himself, an opld bachelor rabbit) and there is a possibility of a tooth infection.

I just don't know if it's worth it. It seems to me he is not enjoying life the way he was before, with limited mobility, daily medication, and now soon to be flushing/injections of penicillin.  It's such a dillema to me. *sighs* Please give any advice you can.

ETA: I did drain and flush the abscess. Yuck.

Ah sweetie i'm sorry!
At the end of the day it's down to you, if you think that by helping him sleep he would be better off then i bet he would be you've known him for the longest out of anyway and know him best. I'm not sure how long bunnies live for my last was fourteen years, so he really has had some good inings. (Your boy) I feel old age is creeping up on him.

Also you could ask a vet there opion?
It's hard saying good bye to any of our fury children but mums know best.

I hope thiis helps pleaes keep us updated!

I've decided to bring him tomorrow to be PTS. It's such a hard decision, he's been with me for such a long time. I'm trying not to think about it, but it really is for the best. I feel so bad for him.

It is hard, but, in the end, it's the best gift we can give them when they're not really enjoying life anymore, and the medications we have access to aren't helping them anymore.  I'm so sorry.  *hugs*

It's weird I wish I had it done today, just for the fact that I see him and cry, and feel bad, even though I know it's for the best.

I can't do it. Not while he's sitting there eating his pellets contentedly. If he stops eating, yes, I'll take that as a sign. But as for now, he is still eating and drinking fine, so that has to show something right?

What it all comes down to is that you know him best.  Listen to your heart, and listen to him.  He'll let you know when he's ready.
