The title is Rats and it is written by Debbie Ducommun. It was very informative, an easy read and had great pictures. Has anyone else run across any other great rat books?

I think a lot of people here have read that book, including myself. From what I understand, Debbie Ducommun is pretty much a rat expert. I agree that it was very easy to read and gave a lot of good info. It is a great book to keep around in case you need basic help or information trying to diagnose certain ailments.

There is a RATS magazine out there as well that i think is very good, i have the book as well as a few others but i always turn to this magazine because it has a basic care guide to basic injury's like  cuts and bite wounds. Both are good to have, i just like looking at all the cut rat pictures and the great ideas.

The Debbie Duccomon Rat Health Care booklet, updated annually, is a must have for rat emergency and health care, IMO. It's only about $10 and well worth the cost. You can get it from her website at The Rat Fan Club. Another favorite is Training Your Pet Rat by Gary Buscis. Much of the book is actually about taking good care of your rat, but it's good information, and important to keeping healthy rats so they are trainable.

I like that magazine! Besides good info on basic rat care, it tells you how to make a rat first aid kit, and has some ideas for rat toys. All the cute ratty pics are also a plus!  Grin

I had mixed feelings about that book... There was a lot of good info, but it was written like it was directed towards children which made it kind of annoying to read, and I didn't like how he made it sound like it's ok for a rat to live alone. I did like the section on how to teach your rats tricks though.

What's only $9.99 -- the Rats magazine or the booklet?

The magazine is 9.99. Smiley  I have that book too,  I think it was like 6.99.  I have let a couple young teenagers borrow it when they adopted a coupel of Marshmallows babies.  They seemed to like it.  It is an easy read and good for a beginner.  My kids have read it also.

I don't consider that a magazine, I consider it an "annual book." LOL! To me, magazines are monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly... not annual. Heheheheh... I don't always agree with the information presented in it, but the photography is good. Grin

I agree, though, that Debbie's Rat Health Care is a must-have for your library. I need to get an updated version myself... my "newer" version is from 2002! LOL!

You're right, Suebee... $9.99 is a little steep for a *magazine*.  But it definitely sounds worth checking out!  I'm making a run to Petsmart today to look into different bedding and I'll see if they have the Rat magazine too.  BTW, about bedding, is it safe for rats to have that corncob bedding?

Corncob bedding is okay for adults, but not for young rats. It can absorb so much moisture that it can cause ringtail. Aspen is about the same price - I'd prefer that over corncob.

I saw an ad for that book,in a small article about Rats, at a Pet Store. I believe Debbie Docummon is also known as "The Rat Lady" ? Smiley
