Title: when male rats are neutered..... Post by: hyper_muse on October 25, 2003, 12:28:19 AM do they loose the balls, making the lumps go away and then they look like females?
If you know what i mean..... I dont have a problem with male rats but have never owned any but in the litter that one of my females just had 6 out of 7 of them are males and i was hoping to get most of them neutered so i can make a big enough cage for males and females together. And my b/f has a problem with the testicals being so big and sticking out ::) and really doesnt want males because of it. Title: Re:when male rats are neutered..... Post by: musichick2004 on October 25, 2003, 12:31:54 AM with our boy, they just tied off his tubes to his balls and they, as gross as this sounds, just shrivelled up. Now they just look like itty bitty rumply butt cheeks if you look just right (but they're mostly hidden by his fur, and you really don't notice them at all)
good luck Title: Re:when male rats are neutered..... Post by: tunes on October 25, 2003, 06:17:12 AM Yep, totally disappear. Wouldn't even know they were originally boys if you didn't look close. Two of my boys are still "hanging" and three of them are not. The "are nots" are much more pleasant to look at, but I love all of 'em equally anyway!

I'd just like to point out that this is NEVER a good reason to get a rat fixed. But you probably knew this. I was under the impression that once fixed, they did have these little sort of.....handbags that they dragged along behind them, not as obvious as the full on balls but still something there. But I don't have an fixed boys so this is just from what I've heard off others. And musichick2004, Im wincing just thinking of that, and Im a girl! Title: Re:when male rats are neutered..... my neutered guys pretty much shrank away to nothing. i don't understand the objection to rat testicles. they're just part of the rats. i wouldn't neuter just for aesthetic reasons. i have had three boys neutered for aggression though. Title: Re:when male rats are neutered..... Post by: musichick2004 on October 25, 2003, 09:51:50 AM Yeah, the whole giant testicles thing we got used to (b/c they didn't start shrinking right away), and I think most people (if coming in frequent contact with the rats) would as well...
but, if there's a mixed cage, like with our Dwayne, I'm willing to take away his manhood and make him a little eunich. He loves his little harem! Title: Re:when male rats are neutered..... Post by: amymckee on October 25, 2003, 12:49:24 PM Mine didn't look exactly like females. There's still some flabby skin there where they removed their balls. I had mine neutered as soon as they were old enough, because they had to live with the girls as soon as my old man died. Fred is now the only boy with 3 girls, and he is perfectly happy.
Title: Re:when male rats are neutered..... Post by: groomfest on October 25, 2003, 06:38:13 PM I think rat "torpedos" are so cute. I'm thinking of getting a male neutered so he can live with my two girls, but I really hate to do it. I would be taking away a special part of his looks and his personality by doing that. If I knew he was going to be aggressive, I wouldn't mind, but so far I don't have a reason to think he have testosterone problems. I don't think I could afford to get another cage and another boy to be his companion...so if I do adopt this rat, bye-bye balls. :-\
