Title: Foster Rats Post by: Elaken on May 25, 2002, 02:45:58 AM I am so excited, I never thought to just adopt rats until I found a link to an animal rescue place in Arizona that has rats. So I am going to pick up my adopted girl to go along with her petstore rescued sisters(okay I know I shouldn't buy from there because it really isn't a rescue, someone else takes their place but when I see a rat who looks exactly like the one I wanted I can't leave knowing she might be eaten, so I have banned myself from going to petstores alone) Anyways, I want to help out and so I am going to foster 3 or 4 rats also. Although truthfully I dont' know if I can take rats into my home and think I can give them up later. My cage can hold probably around 8 or 9 rats, so I might be adopting more then just one!
Just had to share because I am sooo excited to get my girl, it is different when you adopt then when you just buy from a store. Title: Re:Foster Rats Post by: Kristen on May 25, 2002, 07:26:13 AM I totally agree with you. I got my rats from Kim (http://www.geocities.com/kimsarkrescue/index.html), and they're the nicest ratties imaginable! It's a great feeling to know that you aren't supporting how petstores treat their animals, and are instead giving unwanted rats a chance to get some love. Good luck with your new ratties! ;D
Title: Re:Foster Rats Post by: pegc on May 25, 2002, 08:43:18 AM Good for you! Fostering can be tough when the time comes to let them go.......
But - think of how many more you can help this way! Of course there will be some that you just cannot let go. Keep them. ;D Title: Re:Foster Rats Post by: Dearpie on May 25, 2002, 01:34:32 PM I think I'm about to become a foster mother to two adorable female rex berks. One of my friends wanted a female rat and asked I keep an eye open for a good one. I insisted on two, of course, and almost immediately found these two cuties at a store. Well, come to find out, they're not really an ideal rat home, as they just aren't interested in trying to keep the rats happy (no toys at all, etc etc). Now they're trying to sell their house and the girls are banished to the garage!! In this Phoenix heat (over 100 degrees) I KNOW the girls are being stressed. I just talked to my friend and told her to bring the girls here and we'll figure something else out. She didn't think they could keep them once they sell their house anyways as their living quarters may end up being a situation of a couple months of living with her sister who does NOT want the rats in the house!!!!!!!! oiyyyyyy So I guess I get some GURLIES in our house for a while!!! Anyone interested in them perhaps (after we figure out EXACTLY what's gonna happen), keep these sweeties in mind. I just PRAY that my son doesn't ever let them out along with my boys ... oh dear, dont EVEN think that!!!!! :-[

Well I am in the Scottsdale area, and although I already have five rats and so far two fosters, I can fit four more in my cage, and I would probably be up for adopting...if things dont' work out for them.. Title: Re:Foster Rats Post by: Dearpie on May 25, 2002, 08:09:43 PM Great Elaken!! I'll definitely keep ya in mind! Evidently they're not sure what's going on with the rats either. The mom brought the girls over today, and when they were all piled in the car her daughter said, OH WAIT MY RATS! The mom said ohhh they're gonna hang out here for a while cuz of the hot weather. So I guess we'll have to wait til they sell their house and get moved into their new one?? Sheesh, that's not til at LEAST September!! hmmm Now what to do while everyone goes on various vacations!!!!!! EEK!!! Didn't think about that! I dont think she'd even thought about what they'd do with these sweeties while they go away!!
