Title: 4+ rats desperately need homes-NYC (updated)
Post by: SilverFlame24 on May 19, 2004, 04:41:01 PM
I took these guys from an environmental center (what was I thinking??). They are now going to go back to feeding frozen rats to their snakes but I am left with these 4 to find homes for. I am in Fresh Meadows in Queens, NYC and probably can't travel too far. If you are from CT, New England, NJ etc. and are interested please email anyway and maybe we can work something out. On to the pics:

(http://ratpile.goosemoose.com/images/paparat.jpg) I call this guy Papa Rat. He was left on their doorstep in a box so they are unsure of his age but he looks to be an older adult. He seems to have some sort of respiratory problem so hopefully he can be successfully treated for it. I think he is a black hooded with rusting.

(http://ratpile.goosemoose.com/images/blackhooded.jpg) These are 2 female black hooded rats. The one in the back was living with Papa so she is most likely pregnant  >:( She was left with Papa and is an adult. I am guessing that the second female is around three months old. She was living with two young boys so hopefully they did not know what to do yet and she is not pregnant.

(http://ratpile.goosemoose.com/images/fawn.jpg) This last female is a light fawn hooded. She is also probably around three months old. She was living with those same 2 young boys so there is a chance she may be pregnant.

Please email me at hollylf24@aol.com if you can take any of these rats. If you can't take any, then just pray and cross your fingers that none of my females are pregnant!

*edit 6/1* No babies yet, but Artemis (Papa's wife) is getting quite round. I'll post pics if/when there are babies.

Eeek! Hope the girls aren't preggos! If they are... no no I can't take anymore rats! *hits herself in the head*

But I'll help out with transports if needed, anywhere in NY and surrounding area, as well as probably some parts of CT, NJ, etc. I MAY also be travelling to central/western PA soon too.

Just an update on these guys...

All four of them are *so* sweet, they'll let me flip them and smush them without complaining  :) Papa just got a roomate from Kim's Ark and the intros took all of...5 minutes. They should be able to adapt to new cage mates without a problem. Meanwhile Papa is looking totally pathetic so I will get some pics asap to hopefully sucker someone into taking him  :) He seems to be elderly and his health is failing but he is a sweety and needs a nice retirement home. He also allows me to snuggle him but makes sure I'm not planning to feed him his meds before giving in. He bruxes like crazy when you hold him.
No babies yet, so if they don't have any within the next 2.5 weeks the girls will be ready to go to new homes. They are very inquisitive and friendly. They love to come out of the cage and they all cling to me when I reach in to change the food. All 3 seem healthy as far as I can tell.

Email me if you have any questions or are interested in taking any of these guys: hollylf24@aol.com

*bump* Any takers? All 3 girls and Papa still need a home. One girl *may* be pregnant, but it looks like the other two aren't. They still have about a week left to prove me wrong though  :)

If you end up with babies, I'm sure I could help. It's killing me- I WISH I could help out with Old Papa but I have no more room! :( Good luck.

All 4 rats are still available. A couple people were interested but so far no one has wanted to take them. The girls are definately not pregnant so they are ready to go to new homes now. I've had them for over 3 weeks now and know their personalities so I thought I'd write a little about each rattie.

Papa--black/rusted hooded older adult male--He is a very calm sweet rat. His respiratory problems are slightly improved but he still needs extra care since he's an older guy. Although he is older, he is still maintaining a healthy weight. He loves his snacks that I bring him, especially scrambled eggs. He is living with an Ark rat and the intros took only a few minutes. He is very submissive so he should get along with almost any rat.

Artemis--black hooded adult female--I thought she was pregnant but aparently she has just been enjoying all the food that she's been getting here  ;) She is very friendly and will let you flip her and bother her without complaining. She also likes other rats and didn't have a problem when I put her in with the other 2 foster females.

Persephone--black broken hooded young female--She is the alpha in the girl's cage. She will let you pick her up and pet her without scratching/squirming but prefers hanging out with other ratties. She is the shyest girl but it wouldn't take much time to turn her into a big smush.

Athena--light fawn hooded young female--She is the most outgoing of the 3 girls. She's always hanging on the side of the cage trying to guilt me into taking her out. She also was the only girl able to figure out how to escape from the cage (before I covered the larger spaces.) She looooves attention and always wants to be played with.

All 3 girls still need homes! They are getting sweeter and more tame every day. Papa has found a wonderful home with Selena  He should be going home to her in the next few weeks.

I somehow missed that Papa was dumped at the door in a box. He'll get along just fine with my foster boy who was dumped outside of a petstore in a shopping cart ;D ::) :P :BlueDumboSmileTongue:

Could you post or send me a pic of the available females?
I am somewhat local(LI), and would like to adopt one..two if i can convince my mother... They're roughly the same age as my 2-they're in such a big cage, and I doubt they'd mind sharing with another rat in need of a home. The more tails the merrier-right?

So these girls had no babies and their belly watch is long over - and theya re ready to go to their new homes where they will know that yogies are unlimited, hammocks are soft and fuzzy, and that they are finally HOME!

Papa rat has been adopted so only these three females remain. THey are sweet, active, and lovely - and pretty young too!
