Title: Update: 2 Boys in NC have FOUND A HOME!
Post by: -Kelly- on August 08, 2004, 02:52:59 PM
My room-mate's friend doesn't have time for her rats anymore. She feels it is only fair to give them up to someone who will give them lots of attention. They come with their "my first home" (the largest size) cage by superpet and accessories. They should be able to live in that cage for the rest of their life. One is a dumbo white with tan on his head, the other is a standard ear black berkshire. The dumbo was born 01/13/04 and the other one was born around December, 2003. Their names are Keldar (the dumbo) and Drizzit. Drizzit is a little shy until you get him out of the cage, Keldar is friendly. Both will come up and take treats from you. Keldar was from an accidental litter, but was handled as a baby, Drizzit was meant to be a feeder. I'll try to get some pics soon. She wants them to be adopted out together. Please PM me if you are interested.

If someone could get them to the VA/NC line, I can drive them to around Maryland...  Can you possibly transport, Kelly?

Kelly, I can come get them and foster them until someone wants them. I am a member of RAATS and I live near Raleigh. I might be able to make a trip soon to the VA/NC line to meet Kira. Let me know. I am only 25 minutes from Raleigh and will be in Raleigh on Tuesday, and Sat. of this week I can also come in on Wed, or Thursday nights and on Sunday if needed.

bluratz, how far south can you come to meet someone for these rats?  Also, whereabouts in New England are you?  We will probably need someone else farther north then me to continue transport if this is going to work.  Just trying to get a better idea for planning purposes!  :)  Maybe Arlene can help?  Like I said, I can travel to nearly Maryland, so if someone can pick up from there, this should work out great!

i'm in southern maine, right near Kimmy at the ARL in Westbrook..... If we can get close, that would be great, because I'll probably have my 2 yr old with me!!!!  But on the weekends, I could go further...... ROAD TRIP.........   :yelcutelaugh:

Well, I can give them over to Rattie and she can take them to VA/NC soon. Then who ever wants to take them from Maryland can do that...We should be able to get them to you Bluratz!

I am trying to get pictures, but Marissa needs to go to her friend's house to take them. Either that or the rats will come here first and then Rattie can pick them up at some point. We'll see about pics as soon as we can though. :)

Well wheee...  I just might be going to Rochester, NY here in the next month or so.  I will have to get a rental car so I can safely make the trip, but that means I can drive alot farther than I can with my van.  I would be going to visit one of my friends who moved after high school.  I hope I can coordinate this!  Was there a time limit that the adoptions had to be accomplished in?  Because it might be about 6 weeks before I can do this...

The question is, from NY to Maine...  How does that part work?

I don't think there's a time limit here, so.... cool!

There is no time limit as far as I'm concerned, actually, we're going on vacation the end of this month through the first week of Sept, so after that would be great.  (since my car is already full, hee hee).  If we could find some transport from Rochester, NY to somewhere in MA or VT, that would be great... Rochester is about an 8 hour trip from Portland, ME..... it's just too far for me to go (now if I didn't have a family, I'd go in a heartbeat!!  I went to Syracuse and it would be a fun trip   :yelcutelaugh:  )

I'm getting confused!  If the rats are going to Maine, why are they going ro Rochester, NY which is on the wrong side of NY to be going to Maine?

Where are they now?

They are in NC right now. But we need transport to Maine. We are trtying to figure things out before they actually leave for Maine of course. So we need someone to trransport them. We have them up to either Maryland or NY at this point. Whichever is easiest for someone to take over from there and get them to MA or NH and then I assume Blu could drive to get them?

that I could.  Again, if there's someone out there closer that needs  ::)  a couple of cuties, let's just get them into a permanent home!!  If they need to come this far to do that, great, but if they can find a new mommy or daddy closer to NC, that's fantastic too (of course, I would still want pictures   :yelcutelaugh:

They are still with Marissa's friend at the moment. But she is wanting to find a home for them soon, we may even take them here for a while and then rattie can take them. This is why we haven't got any pics yet. Since Marissa's friend, Erin, doesn't have a digicam.

And the next time I'll be going up to MA is in Jan, so that's a bit too long.

If they need a temp home in NC until they can be transproted to Maine or another permenant home I'll be glad to do that. I live in an apartment and the four girls and three cats I have now is pushing the limits with the complex as well as my financial resources. I'd need to wait until Sept 12th when I get back from Buffalo, NY. I don't think my friend would be to happy about another cage at her house while I'm gone.

They shouldn't need a temp home, rattie has offered to foster them until they need to be transported. So between myself, rattie, and Erin (the original owner) they should be all set. But Thanks!  ;D

Is there no-one willing to take them from MD or NY? No-one? It doesn't have to be one trip from MD or NY to Maine. Someone could drive maybe 1 hour and meet someone else. A big rattie chain. Please people. I'll give you a virtual :cookie:.

Okay, here goes...  My trip to New York is surely scheduled now for September 19th-26th.  I will be staying in Rochester, but the whole reason we're going up (well, I'm going to visit friends) is that my friends Sarah's mom is going to a class on the new computer system the Suffolk library installed.  She's the assistant director for the city's libraries, and they are sending her up for this.

Anyways, I will prolly be driving her (she can't drive anymore) and I know she loves rats as much as I do.  I am not sure where in NY she is going for the class, I only know where I will end up.  I know Rochester is kind of on thw wrong side of the state, but hey...  I am getting them that far, it should count for something!   ;D  Sooo...  Yeah.  My friend Jen can prolly keep them for a little bit, if anyone needs a little more time than I will have up there to come pick them up.  (I can even ask Jen if she would be able to drive 30 minutes or so somewhere...)

Please let me know if this is feasible, I don't want to waste a trip over such a distance when I could be transporting rats!!

I know, I know. It's just that they are not actually here at my house and she doesn't have a camera. I'll see what I can do. Hopefully I can get some soon. Sorry for the wait guys!

The rats are ready to go whenever you guys are. I'll be giving them over to Rattie and she'll be fostering. I am gonna get them here soon then give them over to her to foster as I have no room for an extra cage, especially with people possibley coming to view the house in September. (Which means the landlord is giving a tour and we're only supposed to have a certain amount of animals, which we're over on anyway, but still...)

I really don't know where anything is. I mean the states, yes, but the cities, no. The only way I know how to get to New England is up 95, that's why I'm trying to let the travelers / transportes figure things out. They'll be ready to go, or I can get them over here asap and we can start now, but we still need to figure out how to get them from NY or MD to ME.

Rochester is about 8 or so hours from me.... If I could go that far, I'd just go down to MD and pick them up.  But I don't want the ratties to end up in Rochester with no foster home there, or without transportation east from there.   :P

I'm coming from Arlington, MA (just outside Boston) to around Syracuse NY on either the 21st or 22nd, then out to Rochester, NY, probably on the 23rd, then back to Arlington by the 25th.  I'm sure something could be worked out, even if I were to meet someone near Albany going either way.  Everyone I'm going to visit knows I have/love and will either tolerate or adore these lovely ratties.  Not to mention the fact that I would smell like boooooy ratties afterwards and all my girls would go nuts!

PM me ASAP and let me know if I can help.  I have a whole huge backseat!

Good luck!

So we have a trasport chain???   :hyper:  Eeeeeee!

Yay! Ok, so I'll try to get them HERE within the next week. They have not been around other rats or small animals and are healthy, so I'll have no need to quarantine them. Then when ever Rattie wants to pick them up, she can. I'll have Marissa call Erin tonight or tomorrow. And as soon as they get here, I'll post pics.

Erm, I think we had some miscommunication.   :-[  Musichick will be in Rochester, but she is traveling in August, and I don't go up until September!  I misinterpreted her post as a reply to mine, as in the dates she mentioned (I thought her dates were in response to me saying I would be there the third week in September...)

So...  now what?   ???

Here is a post I found:
I can travel just about anywhere in the South, as long as I don't have
any major classes and I can get off work. I'd rather not go farther than
East: Memphis, TN, North: St.Louis, MO, West: Oklahoma City, OK, and
South to Bossier City or Monroe, LA. I could go to Dallas, too. I like to
travel. As long as I can get there and back within 24 hrs and I have
plenty of notice, I'll go anywhere ya'll need me to.

So is that person willing to go to Raleigh NC? That would work out great. Where did you find that post? And have you contacted the person yet? Sounds like it might work out. Sorry Blu, we tried. :( These ratties just need a home. And thanks for offering them a home. :) But like you said, if it's easier to get them to OK, then so be it. Yay for the ratties.

I am still bugging Marissa to get them over here, they may possibley be here by tomorrow as she is going to a party tonight with Erin, for Erin's B-Day. So I'll ask her to pick the ratties up when she drops Erin off at home. Then I'll post pics.

Oh and when can this person get them? I can't have them here too long as the landlord is gonna be showing the place in Sept. (we're moving in Dec.) so I can't have another cage. We already have 4 rat cages between my room-mate and myself. We told him we only had birds and fish and turtles. ::)
Most landlords are turned off by rats, so we didn't mention them. Anyway. Depending on when (s)he can get here, that would work out great.

Here is the most recent reply I have gotten from the lady willing to help!

I would be happy to help with the transport.  :)  My
school starts on the 30th of August, so if it isn't
before that, it would have to be on a weekend.  I know
Thoma is in Little Rock, and I believe she would be
willing to help with the transport (she's on the
list).  If someone could bring them to me in Memphis
(I might be able to meet themjust east in Jackson, but
it would depend on when the transport was), I can take
them to Thoma in Little Rock, or whoever else wants to
help.  Can you find out how their health is?  If they
have not been around any other rats, and the people
they live with haven't either, I can keep them
overnight.  If other rats have been in and out of the
house, or if one of the humans they live with has been
around other rats, they could have something and I
cannot let my rats be exposed.  I could ask my cousins
if I could leave them at their house overnight, if
necessary, that way they wouldn't be in the same air
space as mine.  :)  Good luck getting something set
up, and let me know when/where to be if you can get
the transport set up.

Kendra

okay if it comes down to a landlord situation or they need to be moved sooner let me know. i own my house so I can have all I want without anyone getting upset. Hubby does not know how many I have anyway. I haven't told him about the latest litter I rescued. I can usually come to Raleigh with a day's notice.

BUMP!

Do we have any volunteers to bring them to Memphis? Anyone heading that way? Or even to East Jackson? Come on, we've done way better than this before.
I can only drive them about an hour or so which doesn't help much, unless someone lives an hour or so away and wants to pick them up from me and take them to Memphis. .

I'm glad to see you posted on the rat transport list too. I've been following thread on Rats Rule. I live in Kernersville, NC and have been hoping they would find homes since I'm tempted to take them. If you can't get transportation arranged or a permenent home found for them by mid September contact me and I'll consider adopting them at that time. I'm going out of town from Sept 7-13 so couldn't possibly take them before that. If you can find a home for them between here and Buffalo, NY they can take a road trip with me.

Oh and they should be here tonight or tomorrow night as Erin is going away and her room-mate refuses to care for them while she gone.

OK, so the rats are coming here tomorrow. But we can not keep them here. We have the landlord coming to do some repairs to the front door and some tile in the bathroom. So Rattie, is it possible you could take them soon? (before the weekend) I'll also give your e-mail address to that prospective adopter. (if you want me to). Let me know.

Oh, And I'll post some pics when they get here.

I can take them in but someone will have to drive from Raleigh to Louisburg which is 25 miles. My husband has cancer and has been fighting it for sometime. His cancer has gotten worst and they sent him home Sat. with hospice coming to see him. they thought he would not make it through the weekend but he is hanging in there. I can keep them as long as necessary but I can not drive more than 10 minutes because I need to be at home to take care of him.

If someone can drive from Raleigh to Louisburg the rats can stay as long as needed. I will gladly give directions. I am usually home in daytime and my mom will be with my hubby if I am at football practice with kids. I just can not ask her to stay here while I go pick up rats since she is staying here while I try to keep kids on normal schedule. Let me know if someone can transport them here. I can take them in today if they can get here.

Hmmm...I don't want to burden you with more rats if you don't need them right now. I can take p3purr up on her offer if you don't think you'll be able to or want to take them. I can probably drive them to you if you decide you'd still like to foster them though.

Wait, I'm all confused now.  *goes crosseyed*

Are these rats going to Tenn now?

If that's the case I have a coworker traveling from Greenville NC to Nashville this weekend. I believe she's leaving Saturday, weather permitting of course (dang hurricanes!).  Unless her plans have changed otherwise, she said she had a couple days off and was planning on making the trip. Let met know ASAP!

I'm with Bonnie!  I've totally lost track of where these boys are and where they are going!  I do wish SOMEONE would take them!  It's really upsetting me.  Poor little guys!

We WERE trying to get them to Memphis. I'll PM BrooksMama, she was the one in contact with the lady who could bring them from Tenessee. Hopefully it's not too late, otherwise, we have no home set up since transport either way was seeming to not work out.

Oh and is anyone willing to drive them from Raleigh to Greenville? I am booked, I have to work and do petsitting this weekend. And I hear Greenville is far. I don't personally know because, well, even though I lived here almost a year now, I still don't know where the heck anything is!

Oh and the boys are here at my house now, in Raleigh NC. We are trying to get them to Oklahoma, we need transport to Memphis Tenn, where they will be given to another trtransporter, who can then get them to Oklahoma.

I'll post pics later when I get home from work, I shouldn't even BE on the computer right now, I should be getting ready for work! Bad Kelly!

Well if they are going from NC to TN, then Raleigh is on the way from Greenville.  (She will have to go thru raleigh and greensboro to get to TN)  If someone could meet her somewhere easy to find in Raleigh, she might not have a problem doing it. (Mind you I havn't asked her yet, but she was willing to transport last time we needed it)

I guess they don't need to go there. If this lady agrees, she'd be traveling right through Raleigh and I could meet her.

It sounds like rattie has her hands full. My friend is taking my girls to her house on Saturday due to my trip (6th-12th). I won't be here to care for them those days if they came here. The woman taking my rats will be stopping in a few days and my neighbor will be watching my cats. I have no A/C in my car and my sister would freak out if I took the boys with me to Buffalo. She doesn't even like cats or dogs. Obviously I wouldn't be here during that time if transport worked out for them. As far as me keeping them forever, I'm still resisting my urge. I know that would be the easiest thing to do but I can't make that decision until I get back from my trip.

Why did I just look at their pics??? *sigh* ::) they are handsome fella's!

And I appologise, I was wrong-- my friend is going to Knoxville, not Nashville. Got my Ville's mixed up.

Either way, she is going THIS Saturday.  Maybe this isn't enough time to set this up?  (Especailly since it's not me driving, it's a 3rd party...)

It is really confusing! I keep loosing track of what's going on. Maybe this will help:

Oh and the boys are here at my house now, in Raleigh NC. We are trying to get them to Oklahoma, we need transport to Memphis Tenn, where they will be given to another transporter, who can then get them to Oklahoma.

I'm near Greensboro and am considering taking the boys if they don't have a home by 9/13.

I solved one problem that was holding me back from giving the boys a permanent home but I'm still reluctant to have boys and girls. I'm concerned about the boys starting to scrap if their are girls nearby.  Any comments? should I post this in another section?

From what I understand their cage is a bigger one than was originally suppose to go with them. That's great for them but if I have them I may end up having to stack their cages and don't know if that's a great idea with male and female ratties.

Kelly: does the cage have an outside feeder? I looked up the cage online and it looked like that was an option with the cage. If so my neighbor wouldn't have a problem with them while I was gone. My friend whose taking my girls in will be checking in after him 2 or 3 times while I'm gone. I'm asking in case they need foster care (or if I decide to take them *hesitantly*)

The thing on the outside is not a feeder, it's a hay rack thing. And I think she threw hers away, but the food would fall right through the bars anyway since it's completely open on the other side.
Right now I have them in my living room, and the girls are about 10 feet away, no fighting as of yet.

They are sweet hearts. Their hammocks were all hung weird so they didn't go in them, but I fixed that and now Keldar is in the hammock sleeping. :) And Drizzit is in the happy hut.

Anyway, I got to go to work now...

That's great, I am really sick right now, (I left work early and have been in bed all day), but we need to get them there before the 7th right, because you are leaving?

I leave early on the 6th (Tuesday). If we can't get together before than I can give you their new mom and dad's phone number. Gut feeling says we need to try to get this done.

I PM'd you with other details.

I talked to the adoptive parents today and their teenage daughters were watching them until 6 this morning, just laughing and really enjoying the boys. Both boys were taking treats from their hands and loving all the attention. My understanding is that Drizzit hadn't been taking treats from hand before. I'm glad they seem to be adjusting so quickly. They are sweet and deserve a good home.
