Title: Blogs
Post by: Goosemoose on December 29, 2004, 03:22:31 AM
Okay, Blogs are now working, and open to all. Blogs are web logs, basically an online diary that you allow others to see. You should see a menu on the left when you are looking at the blog section that says "Write a Blog entry". If you don't try logging off and back on, if you are still using a cookie from before the change it was causing a problem.

The use of Blogs are a privilage, and are provided for free. The Blogs follow the SAME RULES as the forum. The moderators do not want to have to police the Blogs as they do the forum. If any persons Blogs become a problem you will lose your access to create a Blog. Thank you for understanding.

When you setup your blog you can choose whether you want your entry to appear on the front page of the blog section or not. The previous few blogs will post on the main page of those who have chosen to do so.

You can also comment on other people's blog entries.

Check it out and let me know what you think, good and bad, as I can always try to clean things up

You should add a link in your signature or something to your blog entry so people can find yours.

I thought that only members who donate could create blogs, but anyone could read them?

I assume that the blogs also need to be PG?
What if someone on the forums makes you mad? Can you rant about it in your blog without saying the person's name?
Blog specific guidelines will be needed methinks.

I think Ruthie raised some very important questions!  I know we don't allow "dirty laundry" on the forum or in chat, so that would extend to these, too, right?

Blogs are available to everyone. They don't require as much bandwith as the photo albums do, and I'm hoping that there will be enough people donating to get the photo albums to offset the costs of the blogs.

I am writing up more information for the blogs but basically they follow the exact same rules as the forum itself. End of story.

For those who wish to have a blog, but wish it to be uncensored, a Google search for "free blog" gave me 14,300,000 hits.  http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=free+blogs&btnG=Google+Search   ;)

I think that is pretty clear.

Exactly.

Same rules. No dirty laundry, no names. If you want to rant about someone on the forum, it doesn't get done within the bounds of our community. kmw has provided the information regarding finding free blogs outside our walls.

How do you write entries/create your blog? It'll prolly be something right in front of my face, and I'll feel stupid afterwards, but anyways...  ???

When you click on blogs there should be a "User Menu" on the left hand side that has a "Write your blog" message. If you don't see the user menu then log off and log back in. Some of the people have have clicked the log in forever link have their cookies stored and mambo won't recognize you until you log in at least once.

I don't have any speed issues when doing a blog. Try restarting your browser. What browser are you using? You should be able to click on your name to view all of your logs and then delete or edit an entry.

I'm using IE but also using both a T1 at work and a DSL at home.  Same typing problem.

But I did find out how to edit or delete a blog entry,  if you click on the Show your Blog option, you'll see a little icon that looks like a paper and pencil.  This will allow you to edit and/or delete a blog entry.   You can also do it anytime one of your blog entries makes it to the rotating page of blog entries.

Can we use html on the blogs? I tried and it shows up on the preview page, but the code shows on the page where you view the entry. Is there another type of code you have to use with the blogs?

The html isn't working right, I'm working on it though.

I just wanted to third the slow-typing problem - at first I thought it was my computer but it seems other people are having the same problem.

Grrrr....sorry I am still a bit lost, I have logged off , logged on...and so forth a dozen times..the website still shows me logged on now clocking like 4 hours or something but Ive only been back on for a few minutes..I do not see anything anywhere on any page that says blogs, I have read and reread how to post photos and I can not get any photos to post anywhere..I feel like such a fool, and I know suebee is tired of telling us how to do it..I just cant figure it out..and i thought I was pretty savvy..I even made a webpage for my company..but this I just cant get. Do I have to be a member for so long until I can see profiles..send emails..or post blogs..I would like to do all of this..I just cant figure out how. :o( sorry for the bother I know it has to be right in front of me..i just dont see it.

Hi Kimij,
The blog feature was actually removed since no one used it. I'm looking into a replacement though. You do need to have a certain number of posts to see profiles and send pm's. You'll should be able to post photos though, what problem are you running into there?

ok..I have all my pictures on my pc stored in my kodac easy share..if I am in my profile and I use the upload option..the picture im trying to upload will not show up and it automaticly puts my current cartoon mouse back on, I have even erased the name of the picture but when I try to save changes everything goes right back to the way it was as if I had not made a change at all..and everyone is asking me to post a picture of my new guy but I dont know how or where...lol..im to old for complicated..so please please let it be easy. Thanks! Ps can you please ask Knuckles for me if she is whom I got my old guy Nemo from? I believe she drove on her family vacation to Amarillo Texas and met me at the Big Texan and brought me Nemo..he has long since gone over the rainbow bridge, but I alway think how special it was to get my guy brought to me all the way from california!

The photo upload in the profile is only for the avatar, which must be no bigger than 85x85 I think..

To upload big photos, go here (http://www.goosemoose.com/component/option,com_copperminevis/Itemid,210/place,upload/) and use the coppermine photo gallery thing.

You may also need to resize the photos on your computer to 500ish pixels across.. I'm not sure if the Coppermine photo gallery resizes stuff.
