We've had the thread in the reference desk for the past 4 years but it's getting too difficult to find a vet in it. So, we have added a new resource to the site! From the main goosemoose home page http://www.goosemoose.com , or under resources at the top of this page, click on the Vet Directory.

It is set up like a Yellow Pages with specific questions for Vets. I have added all the countries that I know we have forum members from. If your country isn't listed please put it in the "Other" cateogry and I will create the country and move your listing there.

We'd like it if EVERYONE would please take 3 minutes and go post your vets information. This information is critical to our site as most newbies show up here when they need help and the vet references is the most important part of that aspect.

I'm most interested in your feedback, good or bad.

Let me know by posting in this thread when you have posted a vet so I can approve it asap.

I just added three I've had experience with.
The ones in CA I don't have their full addresses, just the city.

Looking great people! We have 24 vets listed today already, and we have US and Canada vets. Keep it going :)

Up to 32 now :) I switched things around so that it sorts by Clinic name rather than vet name. It just wasn't working well the other way around as some people didn't know the vets name ;)

Something I forgot to mention before. When you pick the category it's going to be in, which is usually a state. You can actually choose multiple states. If your vet is near another state (say within an hour drive), please hold down your ctrl key and select both states.

I am in Wellington, New Zealand. Can anyone recommend a rat-friendly vet in this city? Most vets I have contacted have had little/no experience with rats.

I am having the same problem as MaevePotter.  The Vet Directory will not let me log in.  I logged out and logged back in and it just is not cooperating.  Goosemoose... help?

I submitted one for Mission Viejo, California  and it never appeared on the list. Do I need to re-submit?

I took my two boys to my local vet who treats my cats, but he didn't seem to know anything about rats and gave me advice I later found out was incorrect.  :doh: Can I list him under "incompetent rat vets"?

Lol, sorry we won't start that list so we don't get sued! But make sure to list the good rat vet once you find one.

dr. piske is the greatest!  He cares for a lot of animals and will do everything he can to help out. ^_^v  I've given him challenges from a hamster with an extrememly rare blood disorder that the odds are around 1 in 1 million hamsters may have or show they have to a mouse that I thought was a baby rattie that suffered from a very bad fall to a rattie that had strep throat and my other rattie with allergies to everything. He is very gentle with the animals and they always take to him right away. I have yet to see an animal fight with him, especially after he talks to them a bit. :)

still not working.  I also found in another vet directory type post someone posted another vet from my area in VA Beach.

What happens when you try it? They won't appear right away until I manually approve them.

i posted a vet for killeen, texas, united states.

I will add my regular rat vet, who does a great job on the basics, but I've never (thank goodness) had to have a ratty go in for surgery- I want to neuter two of my pet boys and maybe spay one girl as I continue on my quest to start a small, responsible rattery (I would like Algernon to live with the girls, and Beauregard free ranges almost all the time when I'm home and I'm concerned about horizontal tangoing through bars), so I'm in search of a vet in Colorado who comes highly recommended for neuters/spays. Beauregard is my heart rat, and I'm super nervous! If anyone has a rat vet in CO who has done neuters for them with lots of success, please please add them and maybe PM me to let me know?

Lise, it worked, I'm just a bit behind on approving the vets. I have about 10 in the queue to be approved.

I just added four for Illinois (all of which are reasonably accessible from WI): Animal 911, Arlington Heights A.H., Vernon Hills A.H., and Chicago Exotics A.H.

The Powers That Be probably know this already, but I'll mention it in case this is a bug in need of fixing. The first page of the Vet Directory indicates there are (0) listings for the United States. If I saw that and didn't already know from this thread that there really were listings, I never would have clicked through to find them. Is there any way to either remove the erroneous number, or get the database to count accurately?

I had no idea this was up there in the resource section!  I just added my vet in Hamilton, NJ.

I tried to post mine. It said I had to log in, so I did, then it let me fill out all the info, then it said I had to log in again, which I did and then it gave me a blank form. Did my info even make it to the queue?

Yeah I just need to sit down for an hour and go over the php to find the problem with the code. Unfortunately it's going to be a few weeks till I have some time.

It appeared to work for me! I added my vet, she's WONDERFUL! I feel bad that I still owe her money...  :-[

Comments:  Is wonderful with rats. Doesn't charge much as he wants people to take their pets (rats for certain) to the vet and have them cared for.  He gets us in (even when we had never been there and had a rattie emergency) right away if needed.

For some reason I still can't log in to post my vets, so hopefully you can update them for me. I can highly recommend ALL of these vets for treatment of rats, but our families first choice is always our beloved Dr. Cecil.

I just submitted my exotics vet here in Rowlett, which is in northeastern Dallas County. It doesn't show up yet, though, but I submitted it anyway. I saw her today and she was great.

Where do I go to post my vets.  I have one that is my primary vet and one that has done some of the surgeries that are awesome vets here in Idaho.

I have added new vets to the vet directory.  These are two or the most wonderful vets I have come across.  They are both here in Idaho.

I added my vet from Littleton, Colorado in the appropriate place (Resources) and it hasn't been added. The only one there is Alameda East Vet.
Please, if I did something wrong I will be happy to re-submit as my vet is awesome with rats and is a very willing listener. I directed her to this site and she often pops in...loves the site and feels half of you could do her job (as far as rats go) :cheeky:. They also have another location in Alston-Brighton that the vet alternates between. The doc here will see rats and I thought he was very thorough and caring. Prices are what one would expect and not completely outrageous.

Dr. Watson is great with my little guys.  Very friendly and a fantastic bedside manner. He was very reassuring to me as a new rattie lover, and the vet techs there are all wonderful (although I often have to steal my ratties back from them since they love them so much).  I have not worked with Dr. Ladell, however, I understand she also has quite a bit of small animal experience, and is the resident exotics vet on the team. They are a little pricey, $65 just for an exam, but very knowledgeable. Highly recommended!!!
