Title: Adopted Thank you :)
Post by: Ratlovingkippy06 on April 02, 2008, 10:29:31 PM
 Update: 6/14/08

 Nina and AMy are the only females left up fro adoption and i have someone who may take them as first time owners. The two adult females i think will live out their life with my group.  there age is over a year and one female has developed a tumor on her chest along with other health problems. Her eyes almost pop out on one side seems to make me believe there is a tumor in her brain as well. She has the same eye as my blind rat shadow who has brain damage. Because of this and to make things easier on the other female;
\
Thank you everyone

Kayte
Update:

I have a total of 9 fosters with me right now the youngest being 6 weeks and the oldest being 5 months old.  I had taken in a mother and her 8 babies a few months ago and everyone from that litter was adopted but one last little female named Kara.

the is also a second older male that was drop off last week for me. The owner was moving and couldn't take him so i had her bring him to my work for me to pick up. I think he is 4 to 5 months old. Black and white hooded rat, very sweet and his name is moose.
I promised Nina i would find him a good home.

Its $10 per a rat for an adoption fee.

I will have pictures of moose up tonight

I just wanted to say I adopted a male from Kaytie yesterday and he is wonderful...in fact if I would have seen these earlier...more ratties would be coming home with me, lol!
:)
Thanks Kaytie! Buddy is awesome!

What adorable little guys!

Now that my 4 are settling in and soon I'll have the 3 from zoocrew soon, I'm starting to think about getting more cages and getting another group.  I just don't know how many I want to add at one time (Even in different cages) since my whole goal was to go ~gradually~.

http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm166/ratlovingkippy211/IMG_6179.jpg  <-  That one is calling out to me.  Please tell me it's the girl so I don't have to be so tempted. :P  I'm a sucker for a blaze-face.

You're near Zoocrew, right?   So if  we -did- get some from you in a few weeks, you might be able to help transport the bubs we're getting from her part of the way?  (We'd be able to meet you, and could drive out there if we must, I'm just tossing around ideas.)

Gah.  I must think about this and talk it over with my husband.  If we find a decent cage for cheap (so we can still get our FN like we were planning in early May) we'll have the space, and we could probably find a cage if we look hard enough.   I'll have to toss around some ideas and see what we figure out.

..I really shouldn't have even entered this topic. :P Darn my curiosity.  :BlueDumboSmileTongue:

you picked the only boy in the group lol. Doesn't mean he can't be neutored, i have a few large cages for sale for a good price. I do live by zoocrew, we are friends and live about 15 min away from each other or 5 min if i am coming from work or my boyfriends house. I wouldn't go too over broad i have 13 rats of my own and than these fosters. I have male and females but my males were neutered. The babies still have there colds from the bad environment they came from so they have a few weeks yet so you have to think about and now rush right into it. As always i am always willing to take them back in if it is not the right match.

Thank you Michelle and Mike :)

Actually, all our rats are boys.  :)  We decided to only keep boys in the house since I don't want to risk anything unplanned.  :P  (That's why I was hoping he was a girl. :P So I could be "Nope, can't have her, no girls in the house..")

We only have the 4 boys right now, and then the 3 we'll get from zoocrew.  So another boy on top of that would bring us to 8, which is about where we were going to try and stick at for awhile.   We'd love to hear about the cages you're selling.  :)  We were going to try and find something temporary that could hold 4 rats or so until we spend the $200 getting a FN, so we didn't want to spend a huge amount.  BUT.  I talked it over with my husband, and he said if we don't have to spend all the money gassing up the van/driving up there, we'd be able to spend more on a cage now.  Since the bubs were getting from zoocrew aren't ready for a little while yet (I think she said the 18th, but hopefully she'll hold them a -little- while for us.   :puppy_dog_eyes:  )  it'd give us plenty of time to track down a cage and all.

Let us do some investigating and searching around and see what we can turn up.  :)  Do you think he'd get along better with our other rats once he gets introduced, or younger ones?  If he'd be better with the older ones (I *think* they're about 10/11 weeks now?) then we can find a bigger cage then what the boys are in now, and that would save me from having to wrap another cage in mesh ( :hyper: ) assuming the cage we find has a decent barspacing.  I'm not going to test it, but I'm pretty sure our boys can no longer fit through a 1" bar spacing.

Oh!Rats!-  :P  I'm not sure how my husband feels about the encouragement.   :yelcutelaugh:  But he was joking about it a moment ago so it must not be so bad.   Do you know how much it is with shipping, too?  We were going to order it online unless with shipping it became more expensive/about the same as at Petsmart.  (I think I just  saw it last week there for about 180.)

Ratlovingkippy211-  I've seen so many good deals on CL for cages lately, but with gas money to pick them up, it'd completely take the deal-part out of it. :P  We've been looking around Rockford, but haven't found much yet apart from hamster cages.  (Someone offered me a hamster cage WITH cedar filler.  It was only used a month because their hamster died, and they don't know why.  :/  Ugh.  Things like that make me really really dislike CL.)

I think I heard a bit about these babies, actually!  Not the full story, but a bit.

We're talking about it, my husband has no reservations about more rats, but he just does a little bit of playing with them and cuddling them on the couch.  (I'm the one cleaning the cages and playing with them all day and night. :P)

If you go to www.ferret.com shipping on the FN (or anything) is 6.95.  The cage is $154.99 with 6.95 shipping; still beats Petsmart; unless they will price match for you then its a GREAT deal and you don't have to wait.....I did one each way; ordered from ferret.com and got price match at Petsmart.  Not all Petsmarts will do it though.....

Petsmart has it on sale for 180 for pet perks, better tha 220 and some price match The FN. The Gurnee store does not but i did price match at a store near by. Gurnee is a very busy store and the others around are not as busy so they are more willing to do the price match.

Oh what a great deal; I didn't know they have it on sale!  Pretty close to ferret.com!  I didn't know they had EVER had that cage on sale!

Yep, we've seen it on sale the last few times we've been there.  :) We thought about just buying it in the store because we didn't know how cheap it was for ferret.com to ship!  I -think- our Petsmart does price-matching, but I don't know.  I'll have to ask them next time we're there.  I know they're right across the street from Petco, so they're pretty competitive, and Rockford is a good sized town and all.

If they don't, I'll probably check the DeKalb one too, since my dad lives near there and I know they have a REALLY good Petsmart there.

When are you picking up the babies? Moose is very sweet, though is months older so they would need to be introduced.

AnyOne who wants to look into adoption please email or PM me with the answer to questions.

1) name
2) age
3) which rat you were looking into
4)Do you have rats? how many? How long?
5) What food do you use?
6) what bedding do you use?
7)What cage would you use? Pic*
8)  Do you plan to breed?

Thank you

I have tracked down a cage from hippogoddess that I'll be getting on the 25th (Pending her confirmation, so that could change) so I'll have a ton more room for my babies.  :3  (It's a Feisty Ferret cage)

I also may be getting some small and chirpy things from Bluefrog soon, and so she may talk to you about bringing the blaze boy down to me at the same time.

Can you tell me a bit more about his personality? I know he's still getting healthier so it may not be real obvious yet, but anything you've noticed about him so far. :3

Blaze boy:
he is a very sweet boy, no signs of aggresstion at all. very lay back, a little shy right now. I go in and he goes to his house and pops his head out and looks at me. I can out my hand in the house and pull him out with no worries, he wouldn't do anything he just doesn't know me well just yet. Everytime he has seen me he has got his meds so he has some reason to hide. I would hide too :)  I don't think he has any problems with other rats.

Moose/ Miracle:

Moose was attacked by Miracle so he has a bite wound being healed up on his neck but should be just fine. Miracle i do not think will be okay with other rats due to the fact that he was attacked so badly by a male rat.

Not: Miracle was okay outside the cage but very protective of his cage when inside, seemed better outside the cage but is still being worked with. I have only had him for 6 days so he is not use to human contact just yet but when the vet was looking him over she said he was Very good. Its understand able because he went from being in a freezer to cage to vet to dirty cage again with no contact for 2 months while in a lot of pain. Think about that before turning away from him. He is a good boy.

Our boys are playful, but pretty laid back.  I'm *really* hoping he would get along with them, since we're getting a feisty ferret cage from Hippogoddess on the 25th, which would be great for all the boys.  If he doesn't, we can either split the cage into 2 parts, or room him with zoocrew's babies, but I don't think there'd a problem with our current boys once they all got introduced and got used to each other.

I really hope you can find good homes for Moose and Miracle, too.  Moose is a cutie, and Miracle has been through so much already.  :(  He needs someone who can teach him about how good people can be, and how good cuddles are.  :3

Hey Kaytie  :poke:,
Question: Since nevadamoon is getting your blaze boy (i think), could you help with transport with 3 of my boys, being that she is taking them too? I don't know what the whole travel situation is, whether you were going all the way, or meeting up somewhere, but i just thought i'd ask if you could help make it easier for her to get mine.  :) Feel free to say no, but let me know either way!! Thanks! I'll talk to you on AIM probably tonight, or you can text me. Bye!  :wave2:

Yeah, if I got Moose, I'd let him live in one half of the FN, and the babies in the other until the little ones are a bit older. Hmm, that means I'd need to find a friend for Moose...does BlueFrog have any older males right now?

Ha, completely forgot to answer your question...I think I'm picking the bubs up sometime late next week.

yeah i will look into it, i mean i have miracle but who knows how that would work out and he is still under treatment. Moose has a bite wound from meeting Miracle that is being cleaned and is healing fine, he has no health problems that i know of and he is a friendly rat and the girl who had him had 2 other rats before she left him.. I know she took her two other rats seems stupid to me to but she couldn't care for three so i am glad she gave him to me. I will talk to BLuefrog, and keep an eye out because rats do have a way of finding me. Also i gave Petco my number so if anyrats need a home or have anything like Miracle happen again they should call me. I know Petsmart has a male rats.. but i would rather look around and see what is around i have a friend who is also looking for a male rat. By the can you please email me with the answers to the questions.
 Thanks

Kaytie

Post by: Ratlovingkippy06 on April 20, 2008, 06:31:39 PM
 :wave2:

well here is an update;
all of the babies have improved with there little sneezes and are all doing well after 2 weeks of medication and will be on it for one more week to make sure it really is gone. My 3 foster boys all have homes waiting for them but that doesn't always mean they will end up with that person.

6 girls are left and they all need good loving homes:)

Amy and NIna:

Born Dec. 6, 2007- sisters:

Are very sweet and Very social with be good with young kids and adults.  Came to me when a local petstore owner asked me to save a few people his female rat; who they were selling for $20 had gave birth to 15 babies and after watching them grow couldn't bare to see them go as feeders so asked if i could take a pair and find them good homes. This was just after the loss of 2 of my young babies and nina reminded me a lot of them. OUt of the pack when i called she took her head out and while everyone else ran for cover she came over to me. Amy is close to the same way, never shown any aggresstion at all just two very sweet rats.

Kara:

Last female baby from Foster litter born FEb.9 2008

The family had very young kids and at the time Kara was very nerves after her mom and sisters went to there homes, she is very good now. Loves to hang on your shoulder, sleep behind your neck, and comes to the door when you call.

(7 weeks old ?)

Bluefrog sent me an email about some babies she had found in need of saving. She didn't think they were going to make it through the night. They are alive and very well. Have been on meds for the past 2 weeks with one more week to go, sneezing is almost compelety gone and is 100% better.

Im sorry xanterra for giving moose up but he was just so sad here he needed a mom and i knew you had a maybe on him but so many people have in the end not even called back. A lady i work with the saves and adopts rabbits contacted me because her boy die and she wanted a new baby. I was going to give her  Miracle but things were not working out with him so i went with moose.

I don't know why people don't like girls these girls are the sweetest. I am keeping 2 of the sisters.

Nina and AMy would be the best choice for a first time owner.

It's no problem, I'm glad he got a good home! It's probably best that I don't give in to GGMR (right away at least, LOL), and overburden myself too fast too soon with fuzzbutts.

For us, our only 'issue' with girl rats is we don't want to worry about 'oops litters'.   So we figured if we ONLY have males in the house, no one can make babies.   :BlueDumboSmileTongue:

Those girls are so cute, too.  :)  I can't believe there's not more interest in them.

How old are you girls again? Buddy's sister KIna  is still looking for a good home as well. She lives with the 5 younger babies that i believe are 7 weeks old but im not sure. All of the babies have great personalities and i don't understand why no one wants to even give them a chance :(

They should have a good home, they come running to the door to see you when you call them :) it is very cute

Please let me know if anyone wants to know more about the girls.

As i said before i will transport Out of state or in IL, My semster is done on May 16 i believe that is finals week so i will be able to travel.

Thank you for looking

Kayte

I have 3 boys myself and i had them neutored for $45 each with meds about 2 months ago. I love havng both sexes but it can be hard so i do understand.

We've been talking about in the future getting a second large cage, and keeping a small group of girls, but it probably won't be til next year.   Sooner or later, I'll probably want girls just to see how they're different from boys, but I really like big rats, and my boys are all so sweet so far, I'm pretty happy sticking with them.

Only 4 girls and Miracle left to find homes for.  :) (I can't believe no one's interested in Miracle..  He's been through so much, surely someone has the experience and ability to give him a happy home?   :puppy_dog_eyes: )

i do like my boys but i like the energy the girls bring as well. I am taking in two 9 month females in late May early June and someone else wants me to find homes for her 2 boys and 2 girls :( why are there so many rats who need homes out there.  I hope my babies find good homes, i love them all so much. I just want what is best for them :( Miracle is going to be hard to place

Yeah, my boys are young, and already they can be quite lazy. :P  I don't mind too much right now, but it the future active rats may be nice.  :yelcutelaugh:

It really is sad how many rats need homes.  :(  I'm confidant that the right homes for your babies will come around, it just may take time. :3

If I had more experience with rats, and a cage he could have on his own, I'd take him in.  I certainly feel for him. I just don't think I have enough experience, especially with a rat that has been through SO much, to help him feel safe and comfortable, and learn to love people.  It's had such a rocky start to life, he really needs the best home possible.  I'm sure one will come along.  :)  Hopefully sooner rather then later, for his sake!

he really isn't that bad, he is a good rat has never been aggressive to me when you pick him up he never stops moving just wants to explore, apart from his tail and his past there is nothing that different about him. He has really improved since i got him.  He will just have to be alone. I hope someone will take him he really is a good boy just needs someone to love him. A  little nerves of hands in the cage but again never shown any signs of aggression

Oh, really?  That's surprising, I would have thought he'd be difficult to earn the trust of after all he's been through.  It's really amazing how much animals can heal, even after being through such horrible things.  Do you think if he was neutered, he could learn to live with females?  (Since he has an issue with males.)   I suppose if he won't get along with anyone, that's just how it's going to have to be, I just didn't know if there would be any chance for in the future him getting along with others.

Ohman, don't tempt me.      :yelcutelaugh:

I don't want to put my foot in my mouth here, but I am looking to get rats this summer. However, the situation is unstable and I cannot make any "for sure" commitments yet, but I am interested in at least 2 of your girls (if not all 4-- depends on the cage and bills).

I'm presently downstate IL but will be moving to Chicagoland area by May 20 (right after I graduate with my degree). If current negotiations continue smoothly, I will be picking up a cage around that time and modifying it as it presently has 1"x1" spacing. I have a vet in Arlington Heights in mind and intend to feed Suebee's mix with lab blocks (not sure which yet). I also intend to use fabric liners & Yesterday's News in a pan for bedding. Unfortunately, there are two very crucial things I need to make this work-- a secure job (filed 30 apps since Sunday) and a secure home (staying with a rat friendly pal until I find my own apartment). However if all goes well I will be contacting you again about these girls. <33

I know it's a lot of ifs, but I felt I at least needed to voice my interest and throw it out there.

Until then, could you clarify as to which ones are left? I know the 3 month old is (she's the one who caught my eye first <33 ) but I'm not sure about the younger crowd.

Thank you for your time and patience, and for all of our sakes I really hope this works out. I don't want to be another home that "fell through" and if somebody comes along and says "Yes! I can for sure take them!" then by all means let the little critters go to their new homes. There will always be more rats looking for homes in the Chicagoland area. <3

he met Moose, they were okay at neutoral ground, i would be careful but i don't see why it couldn't work.. either it will or it won't. It will take time, he was attacked by a male rat so maybe a younger baby would be better but who knows in less you try.

We're going to talk more about it, and see if we can't figure something out.  I can't commit to him yet so if you find him a good home that's great, but if you think even someone who's only had experience with young boy rats can give him a good home, we're open. :)  I just need to get ahold of a 3rd cage, because I have space in the other 2, but I want a 'backup' plan, and I'd really like to try and introduce him slooowly to other rats.  (I mean, really when I think about it, we could even split the feisty ferret cage into two, my boys only seem to use the top half anyway. :P  Wouldn't be a permanent thing, but it could be a temporary option until we figured out if he'd be a good candidate for neutering, and then maybe try putting him in a cage with a small group of baby girls.)  I have my heart set on a rat nation now, when they come out.

Still interested in these lovely ladies, but still cannot commit.
(Not meant to scare away other potential adopters-- if you can give these sweet girls a home please do! They deserve it)

Can you tell me how social they are? Are you doing any sort of litter training with them? And I assume they are still living together right? Thanks =)

the girls are living together. There are six girls in my exotics cage, they are not full grow and believe me it is a search to find them between the slide i took out of my old ferret cage, the large wheel and houses all over the place. They are spoiled, but are VERY sweet rats. I am keeping one of the dumbos, her sisters have the same personality, They love to come out and meet you, they love to be with you. Kara is the oldest by a few months but gets along well, she is from a my first foster litter that came from a bad home, her mom gave birth on the way to my job. Her personality is not as outgoing but she is very loving but nerves of unknown things. You need to give her a chance, while the 2 younger girls you could adopt them that day and they would want to play. Kara has her moms personality,  nerves of new things but once she does know you mean no harm she is right at the door to meet you. Her mom was the same way.  They really are very good rats, i wish i would keep them but it wouldn't be fair to them.

Thanks

Just wanted to update you on how the boys are settling in. :)  The blaze boy is doing great- it turns out he has the exact same personality as my Jacob, minus Jacob's obsessive licking.  (The "OMG YOU OPENED THE CAGE I'M COMING OUT IF I HAVE TO CLIMB UP YOUR ARM AND GET ON YOUR SHOULDER" personality.   :BlueDumboSmileTongue: )  I was going to call him Laurant, but now he's seeming like more of a Felix or a Fritz to me, so I'm still trying to decide.  :yelcutelaugh:  My older boy were being a bit rough with him (No biting, just lots of wrestling) so I'm keeping him with the babies for now.  I wasn't worried about him being hurt, but I felt bad at the 4-to-1 wrestling match.  :P  So I think I'll let them get used to him in the same room as them gradually, and then see about introducing him in.  Miracle is doing great, too!  He's so big and squishy, and bruxes the loudest I've ever heard any rat!  I have him in a large cage on his own right now, but once he's more settled in we'll get him neutered and try to find a girl or two to keep him company.  (Though, right now, I'm pretty much like "no more rats!" even though settling everyone in went better then could have been expected!)

i have to admit that little himi girl has stolen my heart! i have a cage full of boys who are intact as of right now, but i am planing on having them neutered and if i were to get a pair of girls they would be kept in a different part of my apartment  until  4 weeks after the last male was neutered.

AS of right now all females have also been adopted but this is not set in stone yet, i have a few people looking at the remaining 4. the himi and a sister may be going to SD, and the 2 other girls kara and dumbo himi may go to a home as well.

No one has asked me of the conditions, i have pictures of the cage the babies are living in and if anyone has any more questions or need more pictures i will be happy to help :)

I have had a lot of people ask me about food, conditions where the rats are from and all that stuff so i am just going to post it here.

 There story:

Bluefrog was at a swap and ran into a breeder who breeds for treatment and colors, they were in bad conditions.. no food or water and i guess some were missing eyes..( Blue frog explained why and i rather not say it on here) she got what she could out of there and than emailed that night asking for help. She couldn't keep them under doctors orders and i was just finishing up with my first foster litter. I took them, they had to be treated for respiratory problems the two himi were the weakest of the all and i was unsure whether they may make it.  Now 4/5 are completely healed, very healthy and very sweet rats. The himi standard female at the moment is being put back on meds, the past few days she became weak and so i removed her from the main cage to give her treatment. The sick room is on a lower level away from other rats. I do not think it is anything, she has been the weakest and the weather has been crazy and i am just going to keep the vet informed while keeping a close eye on her. I have been giving an all clear to the 4 other rats who are very healthy and happy to run on their wheel all day :)

Food: Mazui and KIm's ark
Bedding: Aspen; Yesterdays news or  Fresh world bedding
Living arrangement: My first home Exotics cage
Ages: unknown est: 8 weeks

Nina and AMY/ Kara:
Living arrangement: martins cage
Ages: Nina and Amy Born: Dec.6, 2007
         Kara Born : Feb. 9, 2008

C'mon people! These are really sweet rats! I am a friend of Kaytie's and I know she takes good care of all of her rats. I was just at her house the other day, and all the fosters were very friendly and coming up to the doors of the cage and wanting to be held. They would make a good addition to your ratty family!!  :)

Monday night would be good, if you want bring a couple of her sisters with.....we will see what happens :) She wont be alone ....I was hoping to introduce her to my other girls after awhile. The new cage I have is huge so theres plenty of room.

Ive been trying to get a pic of Buddy for you, but its next to impossible when hes out of his cage...he gets so excited and starts bouncing all around. I have a cute one of him begging to come out though (what he does to me everytime I walk by his cage, lol)

There are 6 females left :)
 Nina and AMY ( Born DEc.6 2007)
Blue female and hooded female ( around 10+ months)
Himi and black and white split blaze( 3 months)

The two new females ( BLue and hooded) were  pet for a college student who couldn't take care of them anymore, they were living in  a ten gallon when i got them. Get along very well with my girls.

I just adopted a sweet, shy little rattie who was living all alone and I'd like to find her a friend. I'd like to limit myself to two rats though... are all of your girls firmly bonded or would you be able to split up the pairs you listed? :)

Nina and amy are bonded as well as the older pair but the himi and half blaze female that are still young are the best choice, i am okay with adoption of one as long as i know for sure there will be a buddy.

Please send me a picture of the cage and rat.

What color is Nina? I can't tell from the photo? Are you only adopting her with Amy?
I might be interested in adopting the blue girl and another girl, maybe the himi-- do those two get along?

Nina and Amy do have to stay together they are fawn but a very pretty blonde fawn color.
The older blue female and her sister do need to stay together as well and have not been introduced to the much younger himi. Please send me the information

Title: Re: 5 Females- Nina and AMY- blue female& sister/ Dalmation( 3 months)

Nina and amy are still aviable along with two older female who are living in my FN with my females till Mia is fully recovered.. Mia would never allow them to stay in the group otherwise i would keep them myself, their owner came home from college and couldn;t keep them and had to give to someone by May so i took them in to see if i could find them a good home.

The last female is the youngest( 2-3 months) and was given to me to foster from Bluefrog.  She is very sweet and loving, i think she could be a possiable dalmation but i am not sure.

Thanks please let me know

Kayte

The blue female is an adult who was given to me by a college student with her sister who is a hooded black and white rat. I believe they are close to a year old.

Nina and Amy are also still here as well but at the moment someone in SD would like them but i would have to find a way to get them there.

Your ratties are beautiful and I commend all you do to help these poor ratties. I wish you were closer to NY I'd take Amy & Nina in a heartbeat they would go great with my girls.
