Title: closet maid type shelving for cage building?!
Post by: Rascal_Ratties on May 12, 2008, 04:17:43 PM
does anyone know what the bar spacing is on the closet maid (or similar) wire shelving?

id love to use it to build the ultimate ratty mansion but cant find the actual spacing anywhere online.

i REALY want to build my own, i dont want to use hardware cloth (owies lol) and the only cubes i can find have the huge 1"x1" spacing.
my girls are tiny and i dont trust anything over 1/2" after having a full grown female back in the uk squeeze herself 7/8" spacing on a regular basis resulting in a missing ear when the cat got a nibble in!

I usd the shelving to build a ferret cage for my old rescue years back and it worked SOOOO well, a cable tie here and there and tada! i was actually rather impressed lol, but cant for the life of me remember what the bar spacing was like...

if not...is there any options other than hardware cloth that makes for an EASY cage build..ive been looking into getting a bookcase to mod but there only 11 3/4" deep making them less than ideal...
on the dapper site i saw one of a wardrobe modified with a wire that was aparently made or bird breeders but it was german, anyone seen anything like this?!

the cubes would be perfect but i cant find the mesh ones anywhere and the only others ive seen are the big 1" square gap ones...

tips?! ideas?...

update:

whent to lowes this morning and took a look round.

closet maid DOES make the wire shelving in 2 bar spacings, the super slide is 1" however they also make one with 1/2" bar spacing!  it comes in 6' x 20", 6' x 16" and another much longer one in the 20" width (i think 20ft long)

does happy dance.

now i just need to find the perfect book case/cupboard to modify as it would work out kinda expensive i think to make the whole thing wih the wire...but to just make doors out of it would be perfect! hmmm
