Title: Eczema Medicine and Rats Post by: ..Shea.. on May 13, 2008, 12:30:59 AM I recently went to the doctor and she gave me a prescription for the eczema on my one finger, yes, only one finger. No where else. Just that one. Anyways, I have to put it on twice daily, and am not allowed to touch my face at all. I'd imagine if I can't touch my face...I shouldn't touch the rats. And I can't wrap my finger up with anything. I could try and only use one hand...but that's pretty difficult with three girl rats that constantly try to climb onto the top of their 6ft. cage. Any suggestions?
I have to apply this medication to my finger for two weeks.... Title: Re: Eczema Medicine and Rats Post by: LastEchoes on May 13, 2008, 12:37:09 AM A glove?

How long are you not to touch your face? I assume it will soak in and then you can again. Whats the name of this med and we can research it for you. I guess the medication thins the skin. The box says... Halobetasol 0.05% Title: Re: Eczema Medicine and Rats Post by: scout on May 13, 2008, 06:50:21 PM I had eczema on both hands for awhile - what a joy that was! Anyway, when I had to handle the rats, I put knit gloves on my hands then covered them with a surgical glove. I have to say, the rats were very interested in the gloves, but it kept them from licking the medication on my hands.

I thought it was a spider bite at first, then spread and started getting bubbly..and the went away, and came back ick! Its currently on my left hand, my index finger and middle finger. I never picked up my prescription though for the cream....so Its still there.
Title: Re: Eczema Medicine and Rats Post by: chiropteragirl on May 14, 2008, 09:33:53 PM I personally wouldn't wear gloves, especially not rubber gloves... My rats think rubber gloves are tasty to chomp on. Youch! :o
Title: Re: Eczema Medicine and Rats Post by: ..Shea.. on May 14, 2008, 09:44:05 PM I have to try the glove idea, it however doesn't sound good because anything that my girls know doesn't belong on my hand...gets tugged...
(http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd117/sheanessness/Ratty%20Girls/425014-1.jpg) That was a napkin wrapped and taped around my hand covering my finger that had neosporing layered on it. This was before I got the prescription medication. For now I've been putting my medicine on early in the morning and just skipping my night time dose. Since I normally take my ratties out before bed. Title: Re: Eczema Medicine and Rats Post by: slimynolegs on May 18, 2008, 10:15:31 PM Crazy. Common trait? Owners with eczema enjoy having rats?? Also, how is it just on one finger! Crazy crazy.
I've got these irritating marks up and down one of my arms. Not BAD but it doesn't look amazing. Aside from medication, does anyone know if rats can somehow catch something like that? Probably not, but I don't know, of course. I think I read somewhere that humans can't spread eczema to other humans, so I'm doubting that it can extend to rats. When I handle the rats, I'm just mostly using vaseline on my skin and I keep it all rubbed in so the rats won't come into contact with any of it. Is this ok?.. I should probably have found out first!! Title: Re: Eczema Medicine and Rats Post by: slimynolegs on May 22, 2008, 12:54:11 AM bumpitty bump
