Title: One male/ one female pair of rats- San Francisco, CA Post by: Meeshski on May 26, 2008, 09:03:49 PM http://www.sfgov.org/site/acc_page.asp?id=6610
(scroll down the pics to find them) I'm a volunteer at the shelter, and feel badly our great rats have yet to find good homes. The agouti hooded girls are petite and curious like most girls- they are really beautiful looking. The boys (there are 3 pictured, but only 2 available at this time) were originally found in a grocery store dumpster, and were undersocialized when they got to the shelter (they were MUCH smaller then), but are now bona fide couch potatos. I always take them and put them in my lap when I'm doing work on the computer at the shelter, and they pretty much just keep my lap warm, pee, and brux when I rub their heads. I can't believe their transformation. The boys are neutered and the girls are spayed-both pairs are ready to go. Each rat is $15 adoption fee, and comes with a free health check up at an SF vet clinic. Come by and rescue a rat! They are sick of listening to Chuck the quail go on for hours! have you found homes for these babies yet?? Title: Re: One male/ one female pair of rats- San Francisco, CA Post by: Meeshski on June 02, 2008, 11:03:28 AM no, slimynolegs, these kids are still waiting for homes. The boys rushed the cage when I visited them this weekend (I'd take them if I weren't at 10 myself), and the girls (Gumba and Toki) are not only spayed (and healing wonderfully) but they spent 4 hrs at a local farmers market as part of ACC's small animal adoption outreach (see my thread in rat tales), and got pet and handled by babies, toddlers, tons of 8-11 year olds, teens, adult men and women, and near retirees. Though no one expressed interest in them in particular, I can now say that they are officially well suited to any responsible family, and also did really well with the many dogs that walked, barked, sniffed, and just passed by during that time at the market.
we also just got in a young black and white boy who is really scared, and is going to need a lot of work- I've never been peed on so much- so the sooner these kids find a home, the better a chance the other boy has (if he is viewed as not social enough to be a good pet, it won't look good for him, but I think he will get stay at least a week or two to see if he calms down). |
