Title: Bought a cage for move to Oregon, what do you think?
Post by: Kristy R on June 27, 2008, 07:47:34 PM
I was at the pet store today trying to find fun toys and get a new water bottle for my boys and saw this cage.  Now its billed as a hamster cage, but it looked sorta ok for my 2 boys to travel up to Oregon in.  They'll be with us in the back seat (buckled in).  We're moving from LA up to Portland in a day and 1/2 trip.  I'm going to make sure to pack yummy frozen fruits and take them out when we stop at rest stops, and of course water them.  Just hoping I made an okay decision.  We're really broke and don't have the ability to make those fun cages I saw from a previous post.  This cage was 20bux and I'm hoping at least most of you will say it'll be ok.  I know it's probably not the BEST, but um ya :P  Here goes.

That looks awesome for two boys esp. just for a transportation cage.  Usually you should try to stay away from hamster cages, because they are usually too small for even hamsters. But I like this one. Great find! :thumbsup2:

Ya they definitely don't live in it full time that would stink!!  They have a 4 story (in rat terms) wire cage, but putting that in the back seat rather then the trailer seemed a bit much :P

That looks like a good travel cage. Throw in an igloo and some hammocks and you can make great use of that space. Maybe you can offer to train some ratties north for people who need transport help. If it's not out of your way I'm sure there are people who would love the help.

Hmmm I never actually thought of that.  Good idea, though I will have to make sure its ok with my husband and my dad (they're the ones driving), because we have limited space.  But it's a good thing to think about for sure :)
@Leslie
Ya I don't hear much from Oregon on these forums.  YAY for Oregon!!!!

That looks like a perfect fit for your trip!  I have a small hamster cage that I use as the girls' bio-break cage.  When I have them in other rooms for long periods of time (like when I'm working from home in the office or lazing on the back porch), it is a great spot for a bio-break (peeing, pooping, snack stop and water re-fill).  Or if I need to quick do something in another room, it's a safe spot for them for a few minutes.  Then they just come out again to play and sleep on me.  You can use your travel cage for a safe-spot/bio-break cage in other parts of your house.  Safe travels!
