Title: bleach and rat bedding Post by: pyrostorms on June 30, 2008, 05:01:31 PM i had a question about using bleach for cleaning rat clothing. i have used bleach in the washer when washing their bedding and their scraps for bedding, but when i dryed them they still kind of smell like bleach. is this alright or should i start washing them in a bucket of water and bleach then soak them in water to get the bleach out i have no idea and i dont think them smelling like bleach is ok and alittle low on money so i have to wash them and hope i can buy some new fabric soon
Title: Re: bleach and rat bedding Post by: WS on June 30, 2008, 05:30:53 PM that happens to me sometimes. (occasionally I use bleach) it isn't probably harmful but you might put the bedding back through a rinse cycle or dilute the bleach additive a bit more.

Drying outside so the breeze can take away some more of the bleach smell could be good too. I have sneezy rats so I soak their bedding in hot water using a lowscent dishwash and a small amount of plant based clothing detergent before hand washing. I know bleach kills mycoplasma however I think not irritating their nasal passages is more important.
