Hi everyone. I lurk here a lot and don't do much  :rattysmiley: My brother and I went away for the weekend and my mom watched the ratties. She was playing with them in her room and went to get a snack, she came back and one ratty was gone. She's been missing since 4 oclock yesterday and we just got home. My other rat is noticabley missing her and we have put food around for her, but we dont want to block off anything incase she is in there. Does anybody have any tips on effecient ways to find her? *She has been around the house before, her cage is downstairs, she was lost upstairs but she scales stairs faster than we do. Our house is upstairs, main floor, basement. There's no way she could have gotten out. We took Peep (other rat) and let her run around but she didn't bring back her sister. :(

Awww I have no other ideas then the ones you're doing.  Keeping food out and listening for her and calling her.  I hope it turns out ok.

When you put out piles of food, put a certain number of pieces in each pile, so if some gets eaten, you can narrow the area down where she might be.  You might consider getting a hav-a-hart trap to catch her.  Also, at dusk, turn all the lights off, then lie down flat on the floor and be totally still.  That's when rats become more active, and she may get curious about what you're doing, and come to investigate.  At the very least, you might hear some rustling that will give you a clue.

 do have a smaller cage that you can set up on the floor? Have it will bedding, houses, food and water.

Don't forget water - she'll want water. If you can set up a live-trap use food and water.

Spread flour on the floor of hard floors so you can check for rat-track and see where she goes.
