Post by: tigger73 on July 02, 2008, 05:34:08 PM
Hi my name is Jennifer. we have recently bought two rights. I have 2 questions hopefully someone can help me.

1. Bought a new cage yesterday and one of the rats keeps getting out. how do you keep the rats from getting out.
2. last night i was sitting on my bed reading and letting the rats run around and one of them came up and bit my ear it hurt. then it went aways and came bak and did the same think.

What does this mean?

thanks for listening

Okay, my first question is one that I'm sure others will ask: what kind of cage do you have them in?

i bought it at petsmart, it is called my first pet home 2*2 multi level. my friend has one but her rats don't try to escape.

Okay, I think that cage has bar spacing of 1 inch, rather than the more secure 1/2 inch. Are they getting out through the bars? If that's the case, and they've figured out that they are able to do it, they will probably continue to escape until either (1) they grow too large to fit through the bars or (2) you modify the cage in such a way that they can't get through. Many people on this forum use hardware cloth to modify cages that have larger bar spacing.
