Title: Lost 2 rats, Now I have 1 by herself, What should I do? Post by: Stellarchica12 on July 03, 2008, 06:43:11 PM Hi, I'm new to this and this is my first question any help would be greatly appreciated :)
I originally had two sister rats. After half a year I got "Baby", a white hood rat. unfortunately the two sisters were older than Baby and died, leaving Baby by herself. For about a month Ive been getting over the second loss and have been giving baby a lot of attention. But I realized that I cannot completely take the place of other rats. Baby has had a history of being very aggressive with the other rats so I don't know if getting another rat would help. Should I risk it and try getting Baby a younger companion or should I continue to give her lots of attention myself? Title: Re: Lost 2 rats, Now I have 1 by herself, What should I do? Post by: Cigar on July 03, 2008, 06:53:08 PM Try finding a rat younger than baby, preferably spayed or neutered. That's the advice I recieved when asking what I should do for my lonely boy. Someone will come along and elaborate. :)

Post by: babygirl12 on July 03, 2008, 08:19:39 PM Try jus giving her lots of attention, playing with her alot, but you can introduce another rat to her if you want;;. You could just try it and see what happens, if it doesnt work out you could keep them in separate cages.

If you decided on a young rat as a companion you would probably want to go for 2, not one. That way when Baby passes you aren't in the same situation again. Otherwise, see if you can find a rat of a similar age at a rescue or shelter. Girls may seem aggressive but it's really nothing compared to what boys will do. Eventually they always seem to find a way to get along. I work with the "no blood, no foul" rule.

I think I will stick to giving her as much of attention as possible. What scares me is her past fights with my other rats...she can be very aggressive and I had to separate her from them a few times. But she seems to love interaction with people so I keep her out with me a lot. I just love her so much and want the best for her...
