Title: Dog food question
Post by: Heatherama on July 11, 2008, 01:53:12 AM
OK, so I can't find the Innova anywhere other than online, but what I did find was....and feel free to laugh cause I did....Dick Van Patton's Natural Balance Reduced Calorie formula.  Here are the stats, please let me know if this is alright.  They were giving out free sample bags at the pet store, 5 to a customer!  It says it's got..."Brown rice, fresh chicken, duck meal, lamb meal, oatmeal, fresh carrots, and fresh potatoes."

Crude protein - 16.5%
Crude fat - 6%  ( thought the max was 4%)
Crude fiber - maximum 5%
Moisture - maximum 10%

The rest is Omega  fatty acids and Omega 6 fatty acids.  Does this sound like it would be healthy for my rat boys?  Or is it too fatty?  Now they are eating Suebee's mix with fruits and veg every day...but they seem to be really picking at the mix.  I'd say they are only eating about 1/3 of what's in there.  Picky things.  I'm going to meet a mutual rat friend this weekend hopefully and I'll see if she wants some of the mix.  I made a lot.  :P

I appreciate any advice.  Thanks again ladies!!!!

I use Natural Balance Reduced Calorie Formula and it is fine for my girls. I'm no expert, but I think as long as the protein is 18% or less for non-pregnant adults, the fat is 6% or less, and the ingredients are natural and high quality, it is a good fit for rats. Good luck!

I never realized Dick Van Patton was connected with Natural Balance... LOL! But yes, that one is decent, too. ;)

Yeah, I definately giggled at that.  First Paul Newman becomes the salad dressing king, now this?!

I thought it was strange that there was some guy's name on the bag... but I never made the connection before. Ha ha!   :yelcutelaugh:

The dog food sounds good to me, no corn or anything nasty.

Yes, that sounds like a very good dog food.

And if you think that name is a little silly, I feed my dog and rats 'Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul' dog food.  ::)
I'm not kidding.

I give my rat and dogs Natural Balance and Blue dog food.  For the variety.  I like that I don't have to buy anything different for my rat, except the blocks.  We share fruit and veggies.
