Title: Hairless girl sneezing + hairless rat care Post by: Rmv1983 on July 22, 2008, 03:15:43 PM My new little hairless girl seems to be sneezing quite a bit. We literally just got home about an hour ago. She doesn't seem to have any discharge from her nose or eyes, but she has been out in the heat, and from the heat to the air two or three times today going between my car and the lady I got her from, could this have something to do with it? Do hairless rats need any additional care than haired ratties? She has some extra fleece, and her haired buddy to play with, so she has warmth. I just wasn't sure about her skin, its a little dry and scratched in places. Nothing deep, just superficial.

As far as hairless care goes, as long as she has hidey places and bedding, it's really no different than caring for haired rats. With dry skin, just drizzle a little olive oil over the food once a week. I also sometimes take a small amount of olive oil and give my boys a rubdown. And her breathing sounds fine (no gasping, wheezing in the lung). She is on carefresh bedding, I think the lady who rescued her used aspen. Could this be what is causing her to sneeze? She started sneezing before we even got home yesterday, so I don't know how it could be the bedding before she was even introduced to it :worry:

We have quite a few animals, so I just chalked it up to them getting used to the new allergens in the house. They are fine now.
Keep an eye on your baby, she will probably be fine. Title: Re: Hairless girl sneezing + hairless rat care Post by: Rmv1983 on July 23, 2008, 09:30:24 PM My girl was housed with only other rats. I have rabbits in my room beside her, as well as a dog who sleeps in there at night. That may be it. Thank you
