Title: Getting "foot prints" Post by: italianqt on August 08, 2008, 10:15:37 PM I know a bunch of people have done this before...but what in the world are your tricks? I got the food coloring, dipped my Camio's little hands in it and let him walk around but the prints either had too much or not enough ink so they never came out clear. Is patience the trick to this?

Title: Re: Getting "foot prints" Post by: Rattiemama on August 09, 2008, 12:06:31 PM We used a non-toxic stamp pad instead of food coloring. It stains the paws, but at least it gives a slightly more consistent inking. You can either put their paw on it yourself or try to get them to walk over it.
I know this sounds gruesome, but the way we got the best paw prints was to wait until the little one passed and then get a good print once they don't care what you're doing with their paws. Kiss the kids for me! Title: Re: Getting "foot prints" Post by: BaraLahatiel on August 09, 2008, 02:04:10 PM We tried to take paw prints from Dobbie after he was gone and still found it difficult. It's hard to lay the feet against the paper and get an even printing. We kept smuding it when trying to put his feet in a natural step position. I should have just taken a cast and made charm from it. But I want foot prints tattooed on my shoulder for all of those I've lost, not just him.
I got some good prints from Mab when she did a painting for me. I painted a canvas black and then took non-toxic paint and let her walk across the paint and then the canvas. It even has cute tail swipes in paint. She liked the paint .. and had a fascination with eating the red paint  But she was not impressed with the cleanup- a bath. I call the painting "Midnight Mabness" Title: Re: Getting "foot prints" Post by: silver on August 11, 2008, 04:56:08 AM I tried many different ways of getting paw prints of my boy Scooter before he left and the thing that left the best print was a liquid eyeliner pen, I 'coloured' in his paws and printed them on the paper. I got a few and one came out nearly perfectly (and I plan on making it into a tattoo).
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v482/silverchamber/scooterspawprints2.jpg) I also looked up a recipe for cornstarch 'clay' made from that and baking powder/water and took some very good solid prints from that. I wanted to put it in a locket or something but I couldn't find my locket so I just made it in a heart shape and its now a memorial ornament. When I got all the pawprints was only a few hours before I took him in to be pts and he didn't have great movement of his hands at that time... :( . He was still able to kick though  Title: Re: Getting "foot prints" Post by: italianqt on August 12, 2008, 12:01:02 AM Well, I tried again but still can't get it just right. What I have can be adapted into a tattoo, I guess. I just don't wanna make the whole ordeal too stressful for the little guy. Thanks for your input - I think I'm gonna try picking up some of the stamp pads this week. Sounds like a "cleaner" way to go.
