Title: FN 141 v. 142
Post by: Selestine on October 04, 2008, 11:15:56 PM
Okay, so I currently have the FN 141 (actually it's a 142 without the top portion as the top portion belongs to someone else ^_^) all ready and waiting for my rats to come home next weekend.

I'm addicted to Craigslist, however and there are THREE FN 142 cages for sale in my area currently and it is driving me bonkers seeing them listed there every day with the prices dropping and dropping (so if anyone lives in Phoenix and wants a 142, hop on Craigslist).  I am considering finding out if any of the cage owners would sell me just the top portion of the cage so that I can convert mine into a 142.  I'm not really interested in buying a completely new cage and then selling the 141 or storing it.  Well, that's not quite true ^^ I would be, but I think hubby would pitch a fit although he is all right with the idea of just buying the top portion of someone's cage.

To finally get to the point -- how much would you guys pay to upgrade your 141 to a 142 for two rats?  I'm pretty much forbidden from getting GGMR so it will just remain two rats in the cage.  I know that more room is always better, but how much better is it?

Three of them. . . with dropping prices! Ugh they never come up for sale in my area

You must have the willpower of a saint to not have bought one by now  :angel8:. . . .in which case your hubby ought to let you have whatever you want lol

oh. . .right. . I'm supposed to be giving constructive advice here . . . . if they reach anywhere near $150, they're a deal. . .any lower than that and they'd be a steal!

There is a 142 for $100.  It is KILLING me, but mean hubby won't let me just buy the whole setup since he doesn't want to have to deal with storing or trying to sell the 141.

I know your hubby doesnt want to, but I myself would buy the complete cage for $100...around here just the extensions for the second level is just over $100....then turn around and sell yours for the $100 you paid for the 142.   142's are $160 here.

That's what I keep trying to tell him, but his argument is that if I can find a bunch of 142s for sale, why will anyone buy my 141?  I'm going to keep trying to talk him into it, but we'll see =/  I did e-mail some people and ask if they'd be willing to sell just the top so maybe I'll get lucky and not need to poke hubby.  If not.. maybe if I whine enough he'll cave ^_^

o.O $100?!

I'd be ALL overthat if it was in my area. The closest thing to an ad for an FN that I've seen, is one looking for one. I haven't even seen them in a pet store around here...

what about getting the 142 for 100 and then attaching the 141 to the side, so tat you have lots of floor space and a bit of height as well.  and this will also help when they get older and they cant use ladders, they can just use all their floor space.

Amazingly enough, hubby caved pretty quickly and says I can get the 142.

I love the idea of attaching them together and was actually thinking about that the other day, but it is unfortunately not a possibility.  I don't have the floor space in my living room to have two cages side-by-side like that.  The living room is where we spend all of our time so the couch / kid chairs / double computer desk / TV / bookshelves / everything else we use is all out here.  The only place for the cage to go is up.  Maybe I can convince him to let me stash the 141 away until we move into a bigger place ^___^

Or you could mod the bottom of your 141 and add it to the top of the 142, would take some work and creativity though ;)

Haha, it would also tower over me!  I'm definitely not interested in a cage -that- large.  The boys will just have to be happy with a 142, I'm afraid.

Oh, the poor things. How mean you are, making them settle for just the 142 :BlueDumboSmileTongue:

Yea, I was torn between doing the 143 or just getting another 142 and making a double. But, I just couldn't see being able to reach the top with a 143, not to mention, another 142 means double the space, and it's not that much more money. My hubby wasn't keen at first at dropping another 180, but then we ended up keeping 8 of maia's babies, and I got a job, so, now he's ok with it :)
