Hi Fellow Rat Fans,
There are a ton of rats who need homes here in Northern CA.  The Rattie Ratz Rescue has about 100, the Placer SPCA in Roseville has about 30, and I just got word that the Peninsula Humane Society just took in about 800 rats!  Wow!

If you have even been thinking about getting a new rat, or know someone who is, this would be a good time.

I tried looking for the rats on the Peninsula site and there were not any. It had mice but no rats. I don't see how it is possible to have 800 rats dumped off there . Maybe she meant to type 80?? That just seems like too many. Shawna, if you are interested in any special information or type of rat ie. color or marking let me know tonight and I will be sure to check for you. If they allow me to, I will bring my digi cam and snap a few shots. *Sigh* I have a feeling that if what Drusilla posted is true, there will be many tears tomorrow.  Roll Eyes

I'm not interested in new pets at the moment, Whit, but thank you.  I was just wondering about transporting & things of that nature.  THAT kind of involvement I can do!

I dont think I have ever seen an SPCA set up for so many rodents. I am sure that they will need to place them soon if this information proves to be true. I will find out though.

That's all the information Debbie gave us.
I was actually about to post it myself but Whit beat me to it.
I'm sure if you call or email you'll be able to get more information on what you can do for transporting rats to homes.

Alrighty yall! I decided to call the SPCA and talk to a few people before driving all the way out there. The animals were taken from an un named persons household. I was not able to get an actual count of animals but from what I understood... there are a lot! Both rats and mice. They are currently on hold and will be until next Monday. *sigh* Waiting stinks! From what it sounds like... they will be contacting Diane of Rattie Ratz when the animals come off hold but Im not completely sure. The woman who is directly dealing with them was out of the office today (or at least when I called) but I was given her extension for those of you who would like to know more. Its X319. Cross you fingers guys.  Puppy Dog Eyes:

Hi All,

This is Diane from Rattie Ratz in the bay area, CA. I just got the call
from PHS stating that they have confiscated another 8 cages of rats
from the same Menlo Park cruelty investigation. They are not certain
regarding the numbers of animals in the cages but there are not
800...BUT there are still A LOT!!!

We are JUST starting to recover from the last horrible wave of animals
rescued from that home and we are not looking forward to doing this
again. We already have over 100 rats here that are looking for homes
and, unfortunately, I do not see a viable method of saving them all:0(

Linda and myself are getting ready and will be going up to PHS this
afternoon to assess the damage... I'll let you know what we find when
we return...

Wish us luck.

Diane
