I'm a llama!

« on: August 11, 2003, 05:23:57 PM »

Hello,

I'm moving to Japan on September 10th, and I have two ratties that need a new mom or dad to care of them. I feel absolutely terrible about having to give my babies up for adoption, but I think this would be better for them than a long, stressful move to a place that I'm not even sure would allow me to keep them.

My ratties came from Petsmart originally. One is almost two years old, in great health, and very curious and affectionate. The other is just over a year old, and is sort of an oddball. A few weeks ago she had an accident, though, and dislocated one of her vertebrae, pinching the nerves that go to the lower half of her body. Thus, she can't use or feel her back legs and tail. I was given steriods to reduce the swelling and to try to open things up, but this wasn't successful. The vet says that she should be fine if she isn't in pain; she seems just as happy as before, and her temperament has calmed down a bit. Because of all this, I don't keep them in a cage anymore (too dangerous!), and they've been roaming free on my bed 24 hours a day while I sleep on the couch. Wink  They're both used to being given wide open spaces and a lot of attention.

I had contemplated finding someone I knew who would be willing to take care of them, but after what happened to the younger rat, I'd much rather have an experienced and dedicated rat owner, who is willing to make special arrangements for the injured rattie, look after them. I don't really know where to look, so I've come here hoping to find a kind and generous person to take in my babies.

I live in Metro Detroit, but the rats are used to long car rides between here and Kalamazoo, so distance isn't too big of a problem for them.

If you have any other questions, just ask!

Thank you!!

I'm from Michigan, but am very full up with rats right now (18).  You might try posting here too:  http://groups.yahoo.com/group/michrats/

Michrats is a Michigan group and you will reach a lot of Michigan people if you post there.  Good luck.

Thanks very much, Deb and Dragon! I was originally planning on taking them with me, but there's so much customs work to do, and a new environment for them that would probably be stressful on their little rattie bodies, and then my little one got hurt, etc.

I'll try posting to the michrats group. Thanks again!

Let me know if you can't find a place for them. The two sweeties are welcomed here at Black Rose Rattery & Rescue.. And they will be well loved and taken care of for the rest of their lives. Smiley  I just love the pictures of them... I want to hold them and cuddle and give kisses LOL....

My email is blackroserattery@aol.com and I am located in Flint, MI.

I'd take them, but i don't think my parent would allow any mroe rats into my home, and my cage is only big enough for the 7 I have.

If you don't find a home by the last minute, and are willing to give me a cage, maybe I can take them in... but I'm sure you'll find a good home by then.
