Vet Checkups?
«
on:
August 12, 2003, 12:37:01 AM »
How often does a rat need to see the vet for a regular checkup? We take my dogs once a year I think for shots and an examination. I have 4 girls so do most vets charge for each individual rat or would they see all of them at the same time for one fee?
Thanks

We take our pets once a year. They get weighed, palpated, and poop samples are taken and inspected. "Lots of things you can learn from poop," our vet told us, and I believe him. It might not be absolutely necessary, but we feel better doing it.

I don't take my rats in for regular check ups, not unless I think there may already be a health issue. Generally, I take my rats in when they need to go. I interact with my rats a lot, so I can spot problems fairly quickly and I'll get them in to my vet right away.

Regular checkups are probably a good idea, but like Ensie, I take my rats in only when I see a problem.
