Author Topic: Sad but sweet memorial for Oreo.  (Read 2259 times)

I just ran something out to the trash and noticed that my daughter had cut flowers from our garden and placed them at Oreo's grave.  We buried her under a large garden rock outside our front entrance, so hopefully the neighborhood critters won't unearth her.  My daughter wanted to write her name in permanent marker on the rock, but I don't really want to do that.  You know those little stones that have sayings on them?  Does anyone know of a source where you could order them with any saying you would like?  We are giving Missy lots of extra attention as she's sure to be lonely now.

I am afraid I cannot tell you where to get pet memorials, I am sure there is somewhere online that could help. You must miss Oreo alot.  Take care.

I am so sorry about Oreo...   Cry

I have been skimming the web, and while most sites offer the generic slab of granite, there are sites with more interesting memorials...

Oh, wait... this is more what I was thinking of...

when i lost my big black kittie "spot" i brought her home and buried her next to a small pine tree and put a small boulder on her gravesite.

whenever i'm mowing the grass or looking out the window at the pine that is now about 10 ft high, i am comforted having her near me.

poor oreo -- sounds like she was very much loved!

When my daughter lost her first rat, the beloved and very spoiled Starr, (in November) she was horrified that I would consider burying her outside in "the cold", and adamantly insisted that she be buried in our back yard in the spring when the crocus were blooming.  At a loss of what exactly to do with Starr's body, I asked her what should I do with Starr until it warmed up outside?  Her exact response:
"Oh, mom, just put her in the freezer. Duh!"
Ahh, from the mouths of babes.

Five years ago I lost my cat Vic to kidney failure (he was only 2   Sad ), and we took him here to my Gram's who has a "pet cemetary" of sorts.  We buried him with his favorite blanket, and planted a sapling over his grave.  Every time I see the tree now it reminds me of him, and when it gets large enough, I'm going to carve his name in it as a sort of living tribute.

Your local vets may also have a company that they deal with for headstones for pets.  The vets that I work for have a couple.  They may be easier to get than over the web.
I am sorry for your loss.  It is one of the hard things about life that pets don't live as long as us.

You can buy kits to make stepping stones at local craft stores and you can embed the ratties name and a photo into those.  I'm thinking of starting to do this for my rattie graveyard.
