I just don't understand my rat.

He will spend hours each evening dragging toilet paper from a roll on the bottom of the cage, to his box on the top level (there are 4 levels, the cage is about 3 1/2 feet high, and he has 3 ramps and a couple of ropes to negotiate).

And then, when he's happy with the end result, and built himself a huge nest,  he'll flop down and go to sleep........ in his hammock.  Undecided

Maybe he's just fixing a spare bed in hopes he'll have company?  With rats it's hard to tell.  Cheesy

Dunno if it'll help but, I clean my rats cage every day so she'll spend an hour or two fixing up her bed again. If you want try to put the roll where he usually makes him bed, it might save him a little time, or just tear up some strips of the roll and put it up there with him. Good Luck.

LOL!  Yes!  look Ali, you already have him making the bed, now you just need to train him to do the dishes Grin

s'funny, I put a roll in the girls cage, they burrowed into it a bit and now have just left it alone.  I don't think they quite grasped the unrolling part of the excercise!

Don't worry, the whole point of putting the roll on the bottom of the cage is to try and keep him out of mischief for a while - or at least stop him peeing, pooping, eating or sleeping for 5 minutes!

It amuses me - he fits nicely into our household with his strange ways! It's just the fact that he never actually sleeps in it which makes me giggle! I mean, it's the one energetic thing he does, and he doesn't take advantage of it! Bless him, he's such a cutie!  Grin

Ali, he sounds like he's having a blast!  I put some in my boys' cage.  Two found it at the same time and Fenway worked on unrolling while Ashmont decided to roll up.  What a pair!  Finally Ruggles, the top rat, pulled all the paper off and dragged it into the hammock.  Now NOBODY sleeps there Tongue

I absolutely adore the term "loo paper"!  It is so much nicer than toilet paper and I think I will just start calling it loo paper to the confusion of my fellow yanks
