I went to the pet store over the weekend and had to go hang around the ratties (of course.) Some people were watching them too, when one young woman exclaimed, "Oh look, that rat is lying on a peanut. That doesn't look very comfortable." Imagine how hard her friends laughed when the male rattie got up and she recognized his "package" -- not packaging peanuts!  Roll Eyes

Reminds me of the time we were in a pet store and there were male hamsters running around.  This group of teenagers came by and one of them goes "Look, she's having a baby!"  The hamster just laid there and never got up, so they never got to see their mistake, but I laughed.  Smiley

My students that are new to rats sometimes make that mistake. It's usually the boys that wonder  "what that is sticking out under that rat's  tail."  All I have to say slowly is , "He's a  BOYYY".  They usually turn red and finally get it.

That's funny!  Did you read the post from Ali about her stepson's response to spotting her boy's 'peanuts'?

I just wish he'd CALLED them peanuts! (after Badger's loo roll antics, I think James might be right...!)

My husband too......one day he leaned closer to the cage containing Akira, my first male, and said, "What in the world is that!?!" and literally gasped when I told him. I was a bit surprised myself when I saw how "gifted" male ratties are. Good Heavens!

LOL I dont know how many times people have come to me at the pet store- sometimes frantically- telling me my hamsters are giving birth. I tell them "they aren't gving birth- they are boys. That is their anatomy...." That's the most politically correct way I can think of saying it.

Course, I had one guy who started, drop jawed, in disbelief and loudly said "You mean THOSE are their BALLS!?" He continued to stare for about 5 minutes until his girlfried was embarrased that he was staring at a hamsters package- and dragged him out of the store! LOL...

I've also gotten lots of phone calls about "Overgrown butt cheeks" that are missing their fur...lol.

People are so silly.
