A Tribute to Missy

Missy lost her fight for life during the night.  She struggled to hold on so long.  It was a tough week-end.  We held her all afternoon and evening yesterday.

Here is my tribute to her.

Missy, December 2001 to May 2002

Missy May,
What can I say,
You came into our lives,
And what a surprise,
Who would have thought,
That you?d steal our hearts.

Rats may make some squeal,
But you had such appeal,
Cute, cuddly and bright,
We fell in love that first night.

You opened our eyes to creatures small,
They?re not so frightening after all,
You were funny and sweet,
Who knew rats were so neat.

Your life was too short,
You fought to survive,
But you couldn?t hang on,
No matter how hard you strived.

We will never forget you,
You were our first rodent pet,
After the sweetness you showed us,
We?re not through with rats yet.

*sniff sniff*  I'm sorry for your loss   ....  but I loved the last line where you're not through with rats yet.  They steal our hearts and I can't imagine not having them in my life.

I'm so sorry to hear about Missy.   Your poem really made me well up - but I too was happy to read the last line!

Sometimes I believe that's what our first rats were sent for - to set us on the right ratty road!

  So sorry to hear about your loss.  The loss of a pet can be very hard to deal with, no matter what kind it was or how long it was in your life.  Best wishes and i'm sure Missy would be proud of the poem dedicated to her memory
