I love my ratties!!!!

« on: May 06, 2002, 06:39:19 PM »

I got a coupon for a free bag of Yesterday's News in the mail from Petfinder.com!  Well, I went to Petsmart and of course they didn't have any by the small animal supplies...so I thought I'd take a chance and look over by the kitty litters.  They had some there.  But it said 'cat litter' on the bag.  I hadn't noticed that when I looked at some before (in a different store out of town.)  It also said 'softer texture.' Or something like that.  Would that be okay to use for my ratties?  Is it the same thing, just packaged differently to 'look good' to cat owners?

I think that it is the same thing, only the pellets in the cat litter are a bit larger.

Strangely enough I was talking to the local pet shop owner..she was telling me that 'Catolet' a cellulose cat litter was the original 'yesterdays news', and they charge more for what is effectivly the same product.  I have tried yesterdays news..that made rattie girls coats go a little strange in colour..tried carefresh..didn't seem to go very far and I felt its coverage wasn't great but I love catolet as its soft, goes along way, absorbs smell and the ratties like it.
;)Anyway thats my pennies worth!!

UK references here....

We started with Bio-Catolet as well, but switched to Bob Martin Recycled Paper-Based litter which comes in ten litre bags for about £2 or £3 in ASDA.
I think we saw it in Tesco as well but it was about £2 a bag more - a mistake, I suspect.
It is also nice and soft.
We don't use much because we only put it in the poop bowl and not all over the floor, both of which are wiped down every night.

My girls are on the cat litter version of Yesterday's news.  I haven't noticed any fur colour issues.  They seem to enjoy tearing it up!
