Loss of blood - do we need o relenish iron?

Hi there

Cressida has had a uterus infection causing her to bleed for 3 days- she subsequently had this successfully operated on yesterday- probbly losing some blood during the operation. She is a little groggy but otherwise fine- although there was a very small bit of blood this morning on her tissue paper- suspect stitch pulling as that is her favourite hobby.

...Anyway, I was wondering with all this blood she has lost- doesn't like an awful lot to me, but then again she is a small rat- do we need to supplement her diet with some iron or something maybe? Otherwise, she is eating mushy stuff at the mo. and drinking a little and should make a good recovery.

Any advise welcome.

Are her feet pale?(The tops of them, where they're usually pink) That's a good way to tell if she's iron deficient/anemic.
I used something called Pet-tinic for Agatha. You can buy it in a pet store, it was costly, cost me $14 but was the best thing. I mix it with warm oatmeal & she loves it, so you can mix it with whatever mushe stuff she's eating.

Blackstrap molasses is also very high in iron. You can mix some up with oatmeal for her.

Recently, one of my girls had an emergency spay because she was  experiencing vaginal bleeding. After the surgery, I gave her wet cat food mixed with molasses and she really liked it. I recommend Nutro, Natural Choice, or Wellness cat food brands; avoid anything with animal by-products on the ingredient list.
