What?

WWW

My rat had babies Oct. 1  Shocked 2 I didnt even know she was preggo.  Anyways, so i havent had time to really research like I usually do.  When "holding" the little pink babies and such, how should you go about that? Just hold them and talk to them? For how long? I dont wanna stress the mother, but I want these guys to grow up friendly so they have a better chance of finding a loving home.  Wink and how do you progress with the handling?

Any help is much appreciated...

Weird, and proud of it!

Just holding, gently stroking, and talking softly to them will acclimate them to human contact, which is what they need to become more social.  As they get older, you can start with treats and such.  Basically, handle them as much as you have time to, and as much as mom will let you.

edit to say:

Mom will also need more protein while she's nursing the little ones.  Hard boiled eggs, soy baby formula, and things like chicken or kitten food are good for providing the extra nutrition she'll need.
