I just read on an old post that tuna is bad for rats, but it is not on the 'forbidden food' list.

Also, i know a lot of animals are not supposed to have iceburg lettuce as its too watery and can cause diarrohea, does this go for rats too?

sorry its another food question!

don't apologize. it is a legitamate question and show lots of thought.

iceburg lettuce really has no nutritional value whatsoever.  it is more like crispy water than anything.  now green and red leaf lettuce is soo much better (and my rats prefer it anyway)  but too much fruits and veggies can give your rats diarreah.

tuna, on the other hand, is up for debate.  i guess it depends on who you talk to, but a little tuna now and again isn't bad.  at least IMHO.  some people will say that it makes your rats more aggressive... but the only signs i have seen of that is some pretty agressive power kisses to me.  lick lick lick lick....

Tuna is perfectly fine in moderation. I have never in my life heard the agression theory, though I will admit that one of my rats was once overcome by it (got excited by the smell), and neglected to notice where the tuna ended and my fingers began. Wink

Tuna contains omega-3 fatty acids that are actually quite beneficial. Smiley

Iceberg, on the other hand, is useless. Smiley

I was just about to ask this question. I gave my girls tuna after they had babies to help build up their fat and protein levels. They actually weren't too fond of it, and preferred the avocado and cat food and scrambled eggs. Wonder Woman would walk over hot coals for eggs.
