Have a Rattastical day!

I am sure it is a respitory infection.  I can hear her breathing sometimes.  Her tail, feet, and ears are cold, and she didn't take any treats. Puppy Dog Eyes:  She was 2 in April.  She's my one of the special ones.  I'm sure you all know what I'm talking about.  Sometimes she makes me think she can't see.  I tried running my hand close to her eye a couple times (like I was going to slap it) and she didn't even flinch.  She is a black eyed rat, btw.  I do not see any cloudiness on her eyes though.  My poor baby Blue Dumbo Big Eyes.  Her mom just died, but she does have a friend with her (recently added to cage, and was guarentined in different house for a month).  I am taking her to the vet tomorrow.  He ALWAYS prescribes amoxy drops.  Once he prescribed tetracycline, but hasn't since I said it was hard to get down them.  Anyone think I should demand some sort of different antibiotics for her (like I do)?  Right now she is on no meds. Blue Dumbo Big Eyes

Accepting all healing vibes and prayers,
   Belinda and Rattilda

Thanks

As far as the meds go, (from personal experience) two of my rats in the past used to get respiratory infections frequently and at the time the vet we went to always prescribed amoxy drops for them.  I switched vets due to the fact that everytime I asked about other meds I was always told that the vet felt the amoxy was the right choice.  I even brought the drug chart with me a few times and gave reasons as to why baytril.

Anyway the new vet I found at the time was much more knowledgeable about rats and was willing to try the baytril.  Although they continued to have respiratory flare ups the baytril helped significantly better than the amoxy drops.

Not to say that you don't have a good vet  Ratty Smiley

I took Rattilda to the vet today.  He gave her Baytril and a shot of a diuretic.  She's getting .06cc two times daily.  It's in a tiny glass vial, and smells horrible.  I have her in with Spritely (who is showing no signs of illness, but is much younger).  Spritely is not bugging her or trying to wrestle with her.  She does cuddle with her alot.  Thanks for the well wishes.

Figured I'd mention, mine hate baytril.  Babyfood is a good cover up to mix it with...they think they are getting a treat.  Sometimes flavored yogurt works well too.

Hope your ratty feels better!!  Ratty Smiley

I can't get her to eat so now I am just squirting the baytril in her mouth.  I have tried tons of things to get her to eat.  So far all she ate was a few bites of string cheese.  Thanks for the well wishes.

poor baby girl. i hope she starts feeling better soon.

i always had to squirt the baytril directly into jon's mouth even when he was eating. he wouldn't fall for any of that "disguise it with food" nonsense.
