I moved my rats into a new cage, i decide to toilet train them, i placed a tray of sawdust in the corner of the bottom floor and placed some of their poos in their, they are pooping in there except for the occasional one i find in the cage. However the still urinate everywhere else, leaving me to clean it up, how can i get them to urinate it the tray instead of in their bed or on the floor.

I too litter trained my, but alas it is largely limited to poo....they still pee elsewhere.  My boys are better then my girls, but thats only because the pee in their nest box and marinate in it! Shocked

The rats I have that are litter box compliant use it for poop. Pee areas seem to be more random.  I have heard that many prefer to go right outside their sleeping areas.  I'm thinking of trying a secondary box outside the sleeping area.

Mine Poo fine in the litter tray but no matter how hard I try they pee everywhere. They especially love to pee in their Igloo and lie in it which means I need to clean out the bedding everyday.

I don't really have a problem with poop, it's the pee I'd like to contain somewhere!  Guess I won't bother litter training after all..

I agree with you Sonya - I can cope with picking poo up, but the pee is much harder to deal with!

I think it's a territorial thing with pee... and that's why they do it wherever...

I got a smaller tupperware box, filled it with different litter from what is in the raisin one, put a few drops of ammonia in there and put it in the one place they were peeing.

They are using it a little bit, but not all the time. Sometimes they pee right next to it. When they do, I grab a couple pieces of the litter and soak it up and place it in the box. . . They are gradually getting the idea.

Hmmm....  Hadn't thought of ammonia.  You think you'll be able to get them fully potty trained eventually?  I never bothered to litter train my girls, since poo isn't all that hard to clean up.

The ammonia sounds pretty ingenious if you ask me. It might just work.
