My rat has moved her bedding to a pile in front of the cage door. This causes it to fall through the bars and onto the floor.
Is there a reason that rats do this?

How long have you had your rats ive found that sometimes whe nyou just get a rat it will try and block th door with bedding, one of my rats did that after she got used to me she stopped. Maybe there is too much bedding in the cage.  Mayebe they just one it that way. You really never know.

Actually when my rats do this it is typically because they want me to clean the bedding out of their cage. They are smart ones! Sometimes they will put bedding in their bowl and that tells me they want it to be put in the garbage. They see that the food gets emptied/refilled with their bowl.. so if they put old bedding in there it will either get thrown away, or washed, and then they get new stuff.

Wow, I'm impressed. My rats like to pee in their hammock, pee in the food bowl, pee inside their houses, and sleep in the dirtiest corner of the cage Tongue Lucky you.

Mine push the bedding around all the time, for no apparent reason.  I think they just like to dig around in it Smiley  It gets ALL over the place, too, lol...

BabyBlue our rats must be related...my girls and guys are gross gross gross.....

What type of bedding are you using. Delilah HATED carefresh and she pushed it out of the cage. Every one of my rats likes to play in the bedding though, push it around, carry it to different levels and even through it out of the cage.

My ratties are terrible! They are very lazy and will just pee in their bedding material, although when they make the effort they will fling their droppings out!!! Hamlet also especially loves to tear up the newpaper lining the bottom of her cage (right in the middle of the night) and make nests with it - although that is nothing compared to the nest making skills of my little gerbil, Bob. They are so great to watch.

my girl, isabelle likes to cover her food with the bedding (maybe so her cage mate can't find it hehehe).  and babs likes to push all of the bedding to the corners so she has a bare spot in the middle to eat.

My rats will sometimes use the bedding to block holes in their timber hideaway--I'm guessing so they can get some dark and quiet for their naps. And like most everyone else--my rats are pigs--love to marinate in their own urine.

My bedding was just changed and she did that--so I think it's a weird ratty behavior thingie and not a cleaning issue.
Also she buries her food.
