After reading a number of posts about rat cages and how it isn't a good idea too keep your rat in an Aquarium I decided to order a Martin's Cage.  This sound like a stupid question but what size sould I get?  I have 2 female rats that are still young but I don't think they will get too large.  I want them to have enough room but I don't want the cage to take up my whole bed room. Suggestions? http://www.martinscages.com/products/cages/rat/

Thanks!

The bigger the better because they'll have more room to play and grow and stuff, but I'm planning on getting the Rat Cabin.  The cage calc. says it fits 2.3333 rats but someone on here said it fits 3 rats comfortably.

Get the biggest one you can afford and/or fit into your house. Then you have an excuse to get more ratties, and a place to put them!

I have an R-690, which is a good size, it doesn't take a lot of effort to clean it, but it's nice and large. It won't fit upright in a car, though.

I suggest either the R-670 if you are going to stick with your 2 girls. If you plan to expand, I would then suggest getting the R-690. Whichever cage you get, make sure you get it powder-coated! This is a must. Rat urine corrodes galvanized wire and it starts to stink soon after you get it. Good luck on your decision!

If you are going to get a martins, I wouldn't get much less than a 685.  I have never bought a martin's because I always think its ridiculous to pay that much money for a small cage when you can make a huge cage for very little if you need ideas, go to www.ratfanclub.com and click on helpful info, scroll down to cages, and they have building designs.  I built the round cage, and my girls love it!
