No longer ratless!

« on: October 11, 2003, 05:27:56 PM »

I lined the shelves in the new cage with plastic needlepoint canvas as I've seen recommended here quite a few times.  Well, Mugby, who seems determined to get into everything, keeps chewing on the edges.  Is this okay or should I be concered or take it out?

Rats generally don't swallow what they gnaw on, so unless the material is toxic I wouldn't worry. My girl Viola gnaws the non-skid drawer lining I use in her cage, so I just replace it when it becomes gross or useless.

Okay, thanks.  I figured as much, but just wanted to make sure.  Smiley

It's just made of soft plastic, so it should be okay. My boys like to gnaw on it too, and I'm always having to sweep up tiny piles of plastic bits when I clean the cage bottom.
