Somone recently told me about the Oasis Magic Mats (sorry, I can't remember who) and I was just putting in my order then thought I should ask: How do you 'install' them? Do they 'attach' to the wires somehow? Thanks!

I think you lay them down flat, they should just stay there.
I dont have them so I cant tell you for sure.

That was probably me!
To answer your question, no the mats aren't fasten down to the cage. But they are pretty sturdy and don't slide around much.

That's right, it was YOU! Thank you! I'm really excited about getting them. Thank you so much for showing them to me. I put in my order and including a couple of other things my total came out to $25.02! LOL....I don't have to pay shipping! I was close to 25 when I thought I was finished shopping, but realized it would be cheaper to order one more item for just under 3 bucks and not have to pay the 4.95 in shipping! I'm so smart!
LOL And I'm rambling...sorry. I'm just so excited. Does anyone else get this excited about these sorts of little things?

I finally got my stuff from theferretstore.com. I love how they turn their boxes inside out (basically.) I live in California and ferrets are illegal here...I'd have someone come knocking on my door...I don't have ferrets anyway, but still. Anyway! I wanted to let you know that i ordered 3 sets of the Magic Mats. I like them, I need more tho! When I got up this morning 3 of them had be moved! Silly rats! Thank you so much for helping me out! I love these things (so far.)

I haven't used Magic Mats but I've heard of them.
I use plastic canvas sheets (very inexpensive at 40 cents) to provide a comfortable -yet aerated- area for my rat's comfort on the balconies. I clip them on using weensy little jaw-clips that are made for hair. === Very easy to change when I clean the cage. Sometimes I scrub them and sometimes I replace them with new ones. (My hobby shop carries several colours). All of these flooring materials may be chewed by determined chewers but my boys leave 'em alone (If they had a couch they'd be couch potatoes)
Any coating on a balcony should ideally have some little surface holes like plastic canvas has to allow urine and moisture to run through and air to move. I think Magic Mat has little holes or slats. Standing urine and other irritants on floors can lead to foot problems. In my opinion, it is not the wire of a floor of a cage that can lead to bumblefoot or ulcerative pododermatitis but rather conditions like urine build-up, dirty uncovered floors, etc. (There are many rats in solid flooring that have this condition and plenty of rats on wire that do not) A mat just provides extra comfort for sitting and walking on the balconies and provides easier footing.
