which martins cage?
«

i'm looking to get a martins cage, but not really sure which model to get. i'm getting 2 ratties on monday (from kim). i'm living in a dorm room, so i don't have TOO much space, but would like to get a spacious one for my soon-to-be rats. i have a 20 gallon tank right now that will work for the meantime...
any suggestions on what model? what has worked best for you?
thanks!

Well .. I have the 695, but it's BIG!! I know when I was looking at Martin's for someone else with just two ratties, the 670 seemed to be plenty spacious, etc etc. Be sure to get the Poweder Coated, as it helps tremendously on cage cleaning AND odor control. Have fun!

I think the best advice is to get the biggest one you can afford. That way when you just have to have another rat, you don't have to get a new cage.

Since you PLAN on getting 2, the 670 or 685 are good choices. But we all know that one more rat won't hurt
No, none of US have GGMR. No no no, we are ALL syndrome free.
But Kim has the 695, then again her dorm is an apartment. Then again I live in a dorm and I had to bring in an extra desk because it was soo rooooomy and I have a single
.
Anyways, the absolute smallest should be the 670 and I am sure Kim will agree when she gets home.

Personally, I would get the 690 - since it is tall, rather than wide, it doesn't take up much more space than the 670!
You will hate yourself if you get a small cage, then have an attack of GGMR.

I said I have the 695 .... but that was after thinking I didn't NEED all that space and ordered a 685 FIRST. I had it together and immediately thought, FOR $10 MORE WHY DIDN'T I GET THE 695!! DUH!! So I found a friend who NEEDED a larger cage, and showed her mine and the 695. She didn't want a 695, so she bought my 685 and I was set! This way I dont have to upgrade again ... unless I order the flip top to put on my 695, which I should have done ....... hehehe see my point? BUT bare minimum as stated before, 670. OH, also, there's a HUGE difference in floor space between 24" and 30" across..... plenty of room for a large igloo with the 30" of floor!! Just another thing to consider!!

hey thanks for all the input you guys! i may have found a used cage that's 3 feet high, 2 feet wide, and 2.5 feet long (or something along those lines). looking at the cage monday. if that's not what i'm looking for, i think i'm going to go with the 690 or something close to that size... i'll be able to make room in my dorm room! who needs a fridge when you've got ratties with a large cage?!?

That's true LOL. I'm getting a new cage soon too (probably 690), and I'll have to do some major rearranging too. Who needs a desk, chair, bed... LOL
