My girls aren't quite full grown, and i am going to redo my cage when i get some different wire (i currently have 1/4" mesh on it-very flimsy).
Could they fit through 1" wire mesh?

There is no path - the path is made by walking.

I would think a small girl - say, 250 grams or under - might be able to squeeze through that.

You could always try 1/2" that is what i have for my boys and it does them well.

1/2" is best.  You'd be shocked what larger girls can fit through, if they have a mind to...   Roll Eyes

All my homemade cages are of 1/2" by 1/2" wire, and you'd be surprised how sturdy they actually are.  Smiley  Once you get 4 walls and a roof, and add a couple shelves, they hold together very well.
