Hi there

Just wonderign what you guys in the UK pay for neutering a male rat roughly? Have you found that it is any cheaper than having females spayed?

I have an appointment with our vet tomorrow so i'll find out. I was actually under the impression that they would only neuter small animals for health reasons but I'm not sure if that is actually the case or not.
I've kept rats for several years now but they have always been in same sex groups so it has never been an issue for us.

At my vets in Plymouth, Devon, I think that neutering boys was around about the same as for girls.  I had my 2 girls neutered at the same time and I got charged £56.   I asked on Friday about boys (even though I'm not planning to have Pob neutered) and I think I was told £28.

I had my girls neutered because of what Debbie D says about mammary tumours.  Now I've brought Pob into the house it will also mean that hopefully he can move in with them.

Wow, that seems quite inexpensive. When my girlie had to have an emergency spay it cost upwards of £80, having said that, maybe living close to London (Reading) has pushed up the prices. Thanks for your responces. I am definatly considering getting the new boys neutered, as eventually we plan to introduce them to the females we have, as given old age their numbers are declining and I don't want little Hammy to be left all by herself as she is very sociable and friendly.

cheers

I had Lewis neutered for aggression last March.  Total cost was about £30.
