I'm a rat slave!

« on: December 23, 2003, 01:04:51 PM »

His name is Subway.  He has been on petfinder for a couple weeks. He is at Twisted Oaks Animal Rescue.  He is mark with a heart on Petfinder which means special needs , though I talked to the shelter and they told me that the heart was because he was blind... not a problem for him.   Wink  He has been there a about 6 weeks.  Age unknown.  Very affectionate.  Heart   The rescue can not provide low cost nueter for him   Undecided

A PEW for the holidays?

I saw him! Hes adorable! I so wish I could adopt him. I'm in MI and everything. I'm just scared to take in an un-nutered male with my 3 ladies in the house.

Bethany...  If you're interested in adopting a neutered male, maybe you could call the shelter in question and see if they can work something out with their vet.  Usually, shelters have a vet who they take their dogs and cats to for spaying/neutering.  You can see if they're willing to work something out for this male if you really want to adopt him.
Many shelters even have a neuter/spay requirement for animals adopted from them, although I don't think this pertains to rats.  At any rate, it would surely be cheaper to do it this way rather than go to a vet on your own and try to get him neutered.  If it's done through the shelter, he will be snipped before you even go to get him, saving you potential problems with your females.  By the time he would be done with quarantine, there should be no chance of him getting them pregnant.

I know of someone who really[/i] wants this guy and could give him a great life but she lives in Kentucky and would not be able to come up to get him until the spring rat show. There is someone in Michigan that is willing to foster him until then, but we need to get the rat to her. She'll be in Grand Rapids next weekend but cannot make it down to the shelter due to time constraints. So we need transport to at least Grand Rapids. Any takers?

Define "next weekend"?  1/16,17,18?  I may be closer to Niles next week for a project meeting in South Haven, MI.

It'll be Saturday, the 17th. I have to be in Grand Rapids that evening to deliver a rescue chameleon to his new home, and could pick the rattie up then.
