The Magic Critter Clan - Dogs, Cats, and Rats

Trickster's color confounds me.  I've looked at standard upon standard, picture upon picture, and nothing seems right... I'll post a pic as soon as I get one, but here's the problem:

In some lights, he looks to be a deep blue-gray.

In some lights, he looks like a warm, rich brown.

He has faint silvery patches, like eyebrows, over his eyes and running back to his ears, and again, a touch around the  muzzle.  He also appears to have a few silvered hairs.

Any ideas on his color?

Lots of people talk to animals.... Not very many listen, though.... That's the problem.

Pluck a few hairs from him - what do they look like?  Is each hair one solid color from top to bottom?  Is the base lighter or darker than the tip?  Is the hair banded with colors?  What colors are the individual hairs or colors on the hair?

Also, look at them in daylight -- not lamplight, or flourescent light. We have an Ott Light at work that is the equivalent of natural daylight, but they're wicked expensive...
