Kim's Ark will once again be taking on the Mt. Ida Lab rescue for the 3rd year in a row. There are rats, mice, guinea pigs, hamsters and rabbits available. These animals have not been tested on, and are used to teach veterinary technician students animal husbandry, restraint, and behavior before they graduate. The animals will not be available until April or May, and we would like to have as MANY adopted out as possible before they are available, because fostering space is limited. these animals are currently pathogen free, and will remain so if they are not exposed to other animals. these animals are in MA, but transport can always be arranged!

if you can help by FOSTERING or ADOPTING a lab rat or mouse, please contact the ark at adopt@kimsarkrescue.org

Perhaps it would help people to know what consequences there may be (if any) bringing pathogen free animals into a home with existing animals of the same or different species?

 Blue Dumbo Smile

HI Kim, I would like the 2 female brown rats if available and if they arent 2 white males then. You mentioned they can be neutered right?  I am thinking about that maybe too so they can live with my girls.

Thanks.

Kim,
Can you guys possibly take care of the neutering of a male rat?  I can pay for it, I just don't know if I can take care of him while he heals.  I don't know what's involved in that.  It would be great if I could take him in after he was neutered.

sandy - at this point, were still stuck on transport most of all, and a few other things. i am waiting t hear back from the lab on what they have definitely available in terms of rats, and if they have any that definitely live together. but transport is our biggest problem, and honestly tracy and i havent had time to deal with it yet - ive had exams and another final or two coming up (two actually, im in denial!), and tracy has a big exam on thursday.

I read this on your site:

"While most of these rats are located in MA or NJ, transport can be arranged throughout the New England (MA, NH, ME, RI...) and Mid-Atlantic (NJ, NY, CT, MD...) areas. Many other rats available in PA/OH/GA/FL and other parts of the country, particularly MD, Wash DC, VA and OH, ID, IL."

I'm in Missouri and would be willing to help out in any way possible.
