Official Request-A-Vet Thread.

Please use this thread to request a vet recommendation specific to your area. If someone knows of one, they can quote your request, and supply a recommendation.
Same rules apply that apply to our
Recommended Vet List
in the Reference Desk:
If You Use This Resource
Please don?t abuse this information. Do not contact a vet who?s never seen your animals before, asking for free advice just because you see their phone number or email address listed here. Make a proper appointment, take your rats in, get to know the vet, and let the vet get to know your pets. Additionally, in many cases it is unethical for a vet to diagnose an animal without having seen it in person. We don't want vets asking to have their names removed from this list because too many people were soliciting free advice.
Disclaimer
RatsRule.com, Goosemoose.com, and the people who have recommended the veterinarians on this list cannot make any guarantees about quality of work. Additionally, any recommendation of a particular vet should not be taken as a recommendation of other vets at the same hospital -- each vet has their own areas of expertise. You should thoroughly check out any veterinarian for yourself to see if they meet your requirements. through compiling this list, we just wish to share our positive experiences with the community, and possibly give people a place to start.
Thank you.

I'm wondering if there are any good vets south of Seattle, WA. I know there are a couple of WA vets on the recomended list, but they're all a long way from me, and I don't drive.

Ratatouille's sneezing is getting worse poor thing. It's more violent and she seems bothered by her nose afterwards. I think I need to get her checked out
Can anyone suggest a vet in London? North London ideally. I'm in Southgate for anyone who knows.
I'd also appreciate some advice on how much this might cost us?

I have a good vet now, but ive discoverd that although hes great with dogs and cats, I seem to know more than he does with the rats when it comes to specific things like MC and such. hes fine for minor things, but I would rather have a vet who is skilled with rats in my area. (Tacoma Washington) Must be reasonably priced (ie, no $40 exotics fee PER rat like some ive been to before...)

Looking for a vet in the Williamsburg/Newport News, Viriginia area. I've taken them to one in VA Beach who was great, but that's over an hour's drive away. I'd really like something closer, preferably within a half hour of Williamsburg. I also used to take them to Noah's Ark in Wmsbrg, but their rat vet left. I tried Jolly Something-or-other, but their small animal vet specializes in rabbits and wasn't terribly rat-knowledgeable.
I hope people other than the requesters actually read this thread occassionally....

Hey, still looking for a rat vet in western Pennsylvania. People around here think of my girls as either food for something bigger or as icky things they set traps for!
If anyone has any helpful info, please, please, please contact me. I've asked around here and the vets all laugh at me for wanting to bring in my rats. :-
Thanks.

Panda Phil: I know how you feel because I also do not drive but my little dependents still deserve the best. My recommendation is the Bird & Exotic Clinic in Seattle (I would recommend them over Barbara Deeb for rats, but I would recommend Barbara Deeb for rabbits - just from my experience). However, if you cannot find a bus to that area, I would definitely call them or the Rabbit, Rodent, and Ferret House (
www.rabbitrodentferret.org
) and ask if they know of anyone in your area that they recommend. We have never gone wrong with a recommendation from RRFH.

Thanks Treefrog. I'll look them up and see if I can find an address.
Funny thin gis, it's actually easier for me to get into Seattle by bus than it is a lot of the outlying communities.

I have a pretty good vet who I trust and who is good with my rats, but I am looking for something possibly more cost-efficient. Good vets and bad vets I've been to around here charge the same.
Chesapeake, VA; and I am willing to drive, especially since I know I have some place local if I have a real emergency. For reference: vets around here want around $200 for a male rat's neuter, and Poe's tumor removal cost me about $345. I would like to be able to afford care for all my rats, and not break the bank when one of them needs medical attention.

Kira and Brandy: I'm located in Richmond, VA and I go to a WONDERFUL vet. His name is Dr. Billeter and his practice is Hanover Animal Hospital. He doesn't know EVERYTHING about rats, since I think I'm only one of the very few rat people he deals with, but he's super-ready to learn. He is very cost-efficient, too. To remove a mammary tumor from Selene AND spay her, he only charged $105. She recovered beautifully. For Baytril he charges under $20 for a 2-week supply, and a brief exam is only $15. He has never charged me for euthanizations.
If anyone wants his phone number, feel free to PM me. It's well worth it to drive if you need some sort of surgery done; he's absolutely amazing.

Does anyone know a vet in the Memphis, Tennessee area? I'm moving there for graduate school. We'll actually be living in Horn Lake, Mississippi, but anywhere in that area, Olive Branch, Southaven, Germantown, Cordova would be fine. I don't mind the drive as long as I have a vet who knows what he/she is doing.

I live in the Oklahoma City, OK area. I got the names of Dr. Nancy Harrington in Norman and Dr. Jeff Henderson in OKC as vets that will see rats. Has anyone seen them for their rats? Also, is there anyone in the OKC area w/ other recommendations? I'd like to have a referral from someone I've spoken to, and not just off a list. Thanks!

I'm looking for a good vet who knows about rats, especially the first few months of their life, in Toronto, Ontario. It's concerning respiratory problems I just started noticing in a small male. If any of you can recommend one, it would be great.

Need a good ratty vet in the Detroit area. Ms. Thing needs to have a tumor removal and I haven't found a good vet that I trust to do it.
The last one we went to lectured us about how unhealthy Suebee's food was (yeah right!) and told us it was okay to go ahead and use pine litter (whatever!)

I know I've run into a few people in her who are from RI, or this area- I'm looking for a good rat vet (heck, at this point, any vet who sees rats) somewhere down here to have on file, just in case of an emergency. Where do you all take your rats?
Thanks for your help
