Rosa bit Bella!! help
«

Well here's the deal. We have a small room all set up for the rats and chinchilla"soon to be chinchillas" to play in. I have been letting the 2 rats out to play with the chin lately. Supervised of course. I sit on the floor and read or something quiet. Well lastnight Rosa was just acting odd. She kept running across my last and trickling pee. Then she bit Bella"the chin"!!! I immediatley ended playtime. They won't be out together anymore. Why would she do this? Is she trying to tell me something? Or is it a normal rat thing I am still kind of new to this. And help would be appreciated. thanks

Your rat bit your chinchilla? Do I have that right? Most of the time, rats see other small mammals as either predators or competition for the same habitat. In either case, they don't react in a friendly way. That would be my
guess
about what caused your rat to bite. I think not allowing them to be out at the same time is probably very, very wise. Most of the interspecies relationships I've heard about have ended in disasters. It's rare that I hear about small furries of different species getting along.
I hope Bella is okay!

Definitely keep the rats away from other small animals. I've heard stories of rats killing pet hamsters, gerbils, mice, etc. They don't look capable of hurting another creature, but they just have instincts they can't control sometimes.
