I love my ratties!

« on: August 24, 2004, 01:30:52 PM »

I have wonderful week old babies that need homes! I have brown Hooded rats, Albinos, and Black and whites, they are very sweet and wiggly, and they have been handled since day 1!  The father is a rex hairless and the mother is an albino, the babies are not rex or hairless, but they hold the recessive gene.  Please adopt a baby I would hate for any of them to be at a pet store....  The mother is very smart and the father is very gentle and sweet....
        Thankyou for your time..... Cheesy

If you plan on giving the babies that aren't adopted to a pet store, why did you breed them in the first place?   Huh

I have the same question as Tizzrah.... Your name is "Rat Breeder 123", but you breed with the intention of sending them to death as feeders at a pet store if there are no immediate takers???

This is my first breeding, I am working towards the hairless genetics... No matter what I would'nt give them to the pet store I thought about that for a while... Even if I have to keep the rats they are not going to snakes. After I saw this website I got alot of hope. I love all my rats, and I feel sick even giving them to the pet-store so i have decided if I cannot find homes I am keeping them, so I hope there will be some rat lovers out there that would take them in to their home...

Do you have a pedigree on the parents of the babies you bred?  Can you be assured that they will not have health problems later in life?  Did you mentor with a reputable breeder?  Can you afford vet bills of any one of these babies comes down with a health problem, or if one of your mothers gas trouble delivering?

You need to read this website.  If you answered no to any of these questions, you should not be breeding.

I have done much research before I bred the rats.  I may not know there exact pedigree but both parents are very healthy, meaning no respiritory problems, tumors, or absesses. It may be my first breeding but I have had rats all my life, and if there was something wrong with 1 of my rats I can afford a vet bill. And the mother had a wonderful delivery...

Remember, this is not an area of discussion about why the rat was bred, but for people to advertise their available rats.  Let's leave it at that.

If you read the adoption section you may notice the surge of rescue rats in our (NY, PA, etc) area so you might have a difficult time placing your rats. I won't go into how I feel about responsible breeding (I think others had stated it pretty clearly) since adoption section isn't for discussing breeding ethics, but realistically this is not the best time for rat babies in our area, purposely bred or otherwise. So don't be surprised if you don't have people lining up to take your babies, and it certainly won't happen in 1 day Tongue

I have done much research before I bred the rats.

I just want to say that your male isn't a double rex. If you research your genetics a little bit, you'll realise that rex is not recessive, it's dominant. What you have is a true hairless male. The 'brown' rats are probably agoutis.

The adoption forum is not for discussion of the rats, it's for adoptions.  Please take conversations to PM if they don't relate to actually adoptin the animal.

I am not sure exactly what they are but what I thought was Black berkies has been changing rapidly, they have grey bellies and cinnamon with dark brown hair.... Is anyone interested these ratties are certainly special... And best of all free, I would love for someone to adopt 1 or more, oh and does anyone have an idea of what they are?   Cheesy

If I cannot find homes I am going to take them to a pet-store, but not an ordinary one, there is a pet store about 4 hours away that takes in rats from breeders, they are not used as feeders and they get many people that take them in as pets... They have hairless, curly, agoutis, siamese, and so many more... (they only sell prekilled and frozen rats as feeders so I am not scared) I am so happy I have found a good place for the ratties (blue agouti I am pretty sure) and if anyone is interested just ask....

Threatening to take them to a pet store is unlikely to win you more homes for the rats.  In the future I would very strongly suggest you not breed without a waiting list for kittens.
