I talked things out with my husband (he was feeling guilty) and we came to a compromise.
This month I will try to rehome as many of the animals listed here as I can....but not to ANY home...only a home I approve of. Any that I still have as of October 1, will stay with me forever.
That way I wont lose all my pets and my husband will be a little happier. This has been a point of contension between us for some time....

AND the first week of October, I am DEFINATELY getting a baby rattie for Finale!!

I cant believe I'm doing this.....
My darling Beau left me just yesterday.....so this morning I say to my husband "I think I will wait about 3 weeks before I contact Kims Ark". So he says "Youre going to wait a hell of a lot longer than that, you have TOO MANY animals. You cant bring ONE MORE into this house until you have none left".  I dont know what to do....I think I can keep a COUPLE but I really want a baby ratty....my heart is broken.....anyway, I will list what I can in hopes that somebody can help me out....I have had these guys a long time and if someone from here takes them, I can know how they are doing.....

I have 3 ball pythons, 2 males and one female...their names are Zeke, Zack and Zoe.
2 Mexican rosy boas (black and cream striped) Ed and Edison....Edison is Eds daughter.
2 Uni colored rosy boas (copper and grey speckles) Buddy and Bernice
2 San Felipe rosy boa males (bright orange and cream stripes) Felix and Fred
2 San Gabriel Mountain Coastal rosy boas (bright orange and cream freckles) Annie and Sadie
A GORGEOUS male albino Okeetee cornsnake named Kasey.
A bright red and orange motley/striped male cornsnake named Kelsey.
A sweet tempered normal colored female cornsnake named Kate.
3 bloodred cornsnakes, 2 males and 1 female, Sniper, Snafu and Sangria.
A grey banded kingsnake named Ranger.
a 3 toed box turtle named Henry........

Rosy boas get no bigger than 3 feet long.
ALL snakes (even the ball pythons) eat frozen/thawed food.

BUT- to anyone who is considering them, rosys are great snakes! Mine is a lovy snake and is absolutely gorgeous!

Have you posted on Kingsnake yet?

I dont want to post on Kingsnake....I dont know anyone there and cant be assured they wont feed live....I have an ad in a local paper and belong to a herp club. I can donate a few for their education program if all else fails....I know the people there and know my babies will get excellent care. I just have so many....

How do you know he won't change his mind after you get a rat or 2?  I'd get a new husband - and I'm not joking.

I wish you the best of luck in rehoming your babies.

I have 2 rats left....one 20 month old (Beaus brother) and one 6 month old...I wanted to get a third in case I lose my old boy so the little one isnt alone.....

He had better not change his mind!!! We have been married 16 years, own a business together and work together...so I am a bit enmeshed here...plus we do agree on most things..most of the time anyway....

Normally I would agree with Shanti, but in this case, that does seem like a lot of animals.  Shocked A lot of cages to clean, a lot of stink (? don't know much about snakes but it seems like that many would have SOME odor, right?), and a lot of attention you aren't paying to your hubby. My dog gets jealous if I play with the ratties for ten minutes - not sure how the boyfriend feels.  Tongue

I do wish you could reach some other compromise with your husband, though, than giving away your babies. I couldn't imagine it.  Sad

Actually, a person can own a lot of reptiles and not have much odor as long as they clean the cages weekly/bi-weekly/monthly (depending on the pets you own). The carnivourous reptiles don't usually eat every day...in fact most adult snakes only need to be fed once a week to once every other week. Reptiles are hypoallergenic and don't really emit odors (except for their poop). They don't poop/urinate as much as a mammal does so it makes a big difference. I have friends who own 20-40+ reptiles and the only thing that smells in their homes are the feeder animals (crickets, mice, etc) they breed to feed their herps.

starsevol- I'm glad you and your husband have come to a compromise. It is a shame to give them up, but it's good you are being careful and responsible about where they go. I was worried at first taht you were just rehoming them to aquire a new "more exciting" pet (yes, there are people out there that are like that), but since you are looking out for your current rats' welfare it makes sense.

As your hubby does not sound like a reptile person I could understand why he might feel a little overwhelmed, but if he keeps pulling these kinds of stunts in the future I believe Kingsnake.com has a good personals section and I know there's a lot of guys out there who would kill to find a woman who loves reptiles as much as they do. Smiley

Good luck to you! Wink

i have to be honest. when i saw the title in the adoption section, i thought 'what kind of wierdo puts snakes up for adoption in a rat forum,' but i had to read it and i am glad i did.  you sound like a good mom to those snakes.

perhaps you should add "frozen fed" or something to that effect to the title of your post.

i hope things work out so that you are happy with the homes they go to. and i am sure that if you need it, some of us would be willing to help transport, too.

Thank you angelratgirl, I did what you suggested. I do enjoy my snakes, but they dont love me back...and dont crave to be handled...they are a little like fish... And yes, they only eat frozen thawed mice,,,never rats...not that I have anything against mice. I like mice. I would never kill one or allow one of my snakes to kill one. But I will thaw one!

And yes, I am a wierdo! I love rats and who in the world does that?? Smiley

I definitely know what you mean!  I wish I had learned about how great of pets rats made before I got my leopard geckos.  I love my geckos but they are like fish- except more expensive and require more work.  My one gecko loves to be held but the other one doesn't at all.  And they just sit there and sleep and the only thing exciting is watching them eat.  I would never get rid of them but if I never had them I'm sure my parents would be more willing to let me get rats.  Or a pug.  *sigh*
